Getting to play symphony of the night again is always good news- but I can't be the only one who didn't instantly think "that's nice, now put it on switch."

Probably will buy- never played Rondo of blood.

The otherworldly goofy naivety was a blessed source of comfort during those dark, dreary and bitterly cold days, along with rice wine.
Huh, that sounds like a trying time of life mate.

There’s a lot to be said about how games can form such an escapism that seemingly trying times can be looked back on fondly.
It might sound grim but it was actually one of the greatest times of my life! Haha. I'd just moved into a new house on the outskirts of the city (the complex was so new there was no gas switched on yet, hence the cold!) and by the time spring came around it was one of the happiest, best places I've ever lived. The winters were brutal, though, minus ten. And summers could get up to forty! It balanced out :D

Ah that is genuinely awesome! I can now play Fortnite with my eldest whilst he's at his mum's! We've been lamenting the fact there is no cross platform play with him on Xbox and me on PS4. I don't even really like Fortnite but this has really pleased me.

I know it's going back a couple of pages, but I can't believe about Telltale. I mean they seemed so safe, their games sold well, were almost all big hits, critically speaking, what on earth went wrong? Gutted we'll not see The Wolf Among Us season 2, that was by far my favorite. There was so much untapped potential for games they could have made too. What a bloody shame :(

The ‘sold well’ part appears to be the bit that wasn’t actually true, according to what I’ve heard anyway.

They were chatting on GB that only the first series of TWD actually made them any money.

The rest of the business was strung so tightly, just living from contract to contract.

It only takes one contract to go belly up and you’ve suddenly got yourself into a serious problem.

Borrowing from Pete to pay Paul scenario.

To be honest Alex after season one of The Walking Dead I didn't see many people on my friends lists playing any of the others. I saw people say how funny Tales Of The Borderlands was yet none of them had actually played it. I have bought Batman, The Wolf Among Us, Tales Of The Borderlands, Guardians Of The Galaxy as well as every iteration of The Walking Dead (even the awful Michonne). Maybe some of the licences were expensive?, maybe they over saturated the market?. We will never know what went wrong. Hope all these people get what they are owed.

The one surprise for me was Batman, I was surprised there was not more of a talk and buzz about it as it turned everything you think you know about Batman on its head and was a highlight outside of The Walking Dead.

Similar story; I bought the season passes of both TWD 1 and 2 on PS3 (and completed them), yet I have almost all of the rest of Telltale’s back catalogue (untouched) through GWG and PS+.

Even though they receive some remuneration from those deals, that’s not a sustainable business model.

That's interesting, I don't recall seeing many friends playing them either but I just assumed it was because I played the complete editions later when they came out. I'd love to check this, I don't think PSN has any handy way of checking game ownership between friends.

If you use ‘compare Trophies’ you can see who has what games (on a one at a time basis).

It doesn't necessarily denote ownership as such, but you can easily compare trophies and bring up a list of everything any of your friends have played.

And yeah, aside from the first two seasons of TWD and season one of TWAU (which for all three of those, I double dipped on both PS3 and Vita oddly enough) all the other Telltale games I own were from PS+.

While it’s not that representative of the whole player base, because the site skews towards the stat and achievement hunting players, TrueAchievements ‘players registered on our site that have started these games’ lists them thusly: (ignore the scale of the numbers, look at the trend)

Walking dead season 1 on XBO: 115,387
Walking dead season 2 on XBO: 64,325
Walking dead season 3 on XBO: 24,757

Wolf Among Us on XBO: 76,360
Takes from the Borderlands on XBO: 79,369
Game of Thrones on XBO: 68,316
Guardians of the Galaxy in XBO: 16,271

For comparison, so you can judge the scale:
Halo 5: 193,749

So they’ve done ok numbers wise, but most of those have had a games with gold or heavy discounting bump at some point. Season 3 of walking dead hasn’t, nor has guardians of the galaxy, and it shows.

I suppose my feeling is pretty MOR: I feel for those who lost their jobs at such short notice, after unpaid overtime. I didn't like the games one bit and felt they took the piss by stretching that engine over so many licences, and they oversaturated their own sliver of the market through greed and/or mismanagement. I'm not sure where fans can possibly turn to, though. There don't seem to be many notable games in the sub-genre. Are the Until Dawn team working on anything?

Never bought any of the games, don't care for The Walking Dead in any capacity (which I say as a horror movie fan), but the way it was handled was super-shitty. To outright steal a quote from this Waypoint article:

"Shit happens, but it didn’t have to happen this way, and it’s a failure of imagination to suggest there isn’t a world where companies can be run in a way that ensures their workers are given a chance to breathe before finding another opportunity. Telltale afforded none of this, and it's important we recognize how irresponsible this is."
