Back when I was a grungy teenager, I bought Road Rash for my 3DO. I was already a huge Soundgarden fan, but I hadn’t heard of any of the other bands.
The very next day I headed into town to track down albums by Paw (Dragline) and Swervedriver (Mezcal Head). Great albums!

More recently I’ve been listening to soundtracks by Dave Housden (Thomas Was Alone), Jim Guthrie (Sword and Sworcery) and Ari Pulkkinen (Nex Machina).

There’s loads of great game soundtracks out these days!

I listened to a lot of 65daysofstatic after playing No Man's Sky, and as has already been mentioned, Hotline Miami turned me on to a whole genre which was great!

I tend to get this more with movies or TV though. I've discovered loads of bands through one of their songs being in a film or show I've been watching.

Not exactly on topic but I went to see a band last month and they came to the UK at the end of a European tour and played a song that they picked up when they were in Poland.

I'm sure atleast some of you will know it.

Easiest, cheapest answer in the world, but the first two Guitar Hero games completely informed a transition in my life when it comes to music. My love of classic rock has heavy, almost exclusive, roots in my first play of those games.

Didn't even think about that game. I mean, I owned the physical CD of Wave 103!
