My first post here, but here is my current 2018 list:
Metroid: Zero Mission (2004)
Metroid Fusion (2002)
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (2003)
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (2004)
Devil May Cry 4 (2008)
Resogun (2013)
Welcome to the forum! That's quite a list you've got there. May I ask what you thought of the above games? I'd be super interested in hearing someone's opinion of the 2003 FE after playing it for the first time in 2018, in particular.
Thanks!
Metroid: Zero Mission (2004)
This was my second Metroid game after Super, which I played in 2016, and I thought it was fantastic. I've never played the original game but Zero Mission felt very much like Super but with more streamlined controls. It's a lot shorter than Super (I think it took about 5 hours)
I didn't like the last section where you play as Zero Suit Samus, but it was a nice idea
Metroid Fusion (2002)
Fusion was also really good, and I didn't actually mind the fact it was a lot more linear. There was still enough exploration to keep me happy and the structure of the game allowed for the plot to move at a nice clip. Some of the scripted story sections were great, and the SA-X bursting out of walls was truly horrifying
I've not played Samus Returns (no 3DS) but both the GBA games left me pining for another Metroid with 2D sprites
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (2003)
I'm not sure if this is against the rules here but I posted about my experiences of this game on another forum, and documented my time with it as I played. The short version is, It's great, however I was constantly terrified my save file would be rendered unwinnable and so while I had a good time with it, it also caused me a lot of anxiety
I made it to the Dragon and died, then after despairing a little tried the whole final chapter again and somehow managed to make it
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (2004)
I think FE7 is the better game, but knowing I had the safely net of being able to grind made this game a lot less stressful, however as I played it shortly after FE7, I was also pretty good at the game and understood the systems quite well, so it was a breeze and I flew through the campaign without breaking a sweat
The animation and spritework of both the GBA FE games was incredible. I'd love to play FE6 one day, though I hear that's the hardest of the 3
Devil May Cry 4 (2008)
I played DMC1 and 3 in 2015, and really enjoyed them (3 more than 1) and I knew a lot of the issues people had with 4 before I started playing, so I think knowing what to expect (backtracking, repeated bosses) softened those issues from my perspective
I quite liked Nero, and the bosses were fun so I didn't mind fighting them a few times, and the moment to moment combat is top tier. I just hated the flying enemies that are weak to guns as they take ages to kill and hammering square doesn't require much skill
Resogun (2013)
I had a good time with this too, it looks amazing and when you get into the zone things just
flow
I reached my skill level after beating the game a few times on the normal difficultly (experienced?) and struggled to get much further on hard. I only have the base game, but would have got the complete version if I'd realised how meaty the DLC was
One I hope to return to at some point
