Is this something I could/should play without any prior knowledge of the series?

I had never played a Yakuza game before 0 so yeah totally
Re: Videogame Deals
Same here, its an excellent jumping on point, especially with 1 and 2 having already been remastered for PS4, and 3, 4 and 5 current gen ports hopefully also coming to the West soon.

Re: Videogame Deals
It’s funny the moment I stop subscribing to ps now I get an email saying come back for a pound. So I subscribe for a month then cancel and wait a few months for them to offer it to me again.Chopper wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2019, 8:48 pmThat sounds like a planSinclair Gregstrum wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2019, 8:02 pm
What you guys need to do is just not play or buy much Playstation stuff for the next 12 months and get on the same "previous big spenders that have stopped spending" list and I'm sure you'll get a code!
Easy!
In the last year I’ve spent under the one month normal subscription fee but had about 4 months of the service. If the service was cheaper I probably wouldn’t cancel but it’s too expensive to keep ongoing when I barely use it

Re: Videogame Deals
I just bought Tetris Effect in the weekend flash sale. Not too big of a discount, but juuuust enough to push me over the edge.
...I hear Darren has some scores worth breaking?

I mean, it is the right time of year for it. Right now Nagasaki have a big lantern festival. Chinese New Year, innit.

If you're in Canada, they have standard edition copies of Titanfall 2 at Dollarama for a measly $4. They only had XBone copies when I found them, but the cashier said they had PS4 copies come in as well.

Travis Strikes Again is down to £18.99 on Amazon. Anybody played this and is it as bad as most of the reviews suggest? Is it worth it at this price?

It's pretty good, but don't go in expecting something on the level of a mainline No More Heroes game. It's something of a small scale spin-off that's supposed to be paying homage to indie games, and the history of the medium as a whole. Grasshopper games are always pretty basic in terms of mechanics, but this one is even pretty simple by their standards. But it's still fun on a basic level and the combat feels good. It does some neat things with shaking up the mechanics or presentation in various levels too. But as is also the trend with the studio, it's all very stylishly presented. So it makes for an enjoyable audiovisual experience, if not a mechanically deep one. There's a lot of neat nods to other games, from both Grasshopper and other studios that makes for some entertaining fan service as well.DomsBeard wrote: ↑March 1st, 2019, 5:38 pmSecondedADumican83 wrote: ↑March 1st, 2019, 4:15 pm Travis Strikes Again is down to £18.99 on Amazon. There's also a deeper layer going on under the surface that is about game development in general, and what it's like trying to make your ideas a reality and the struggles involved with that. As well as the relationship different people have with games depending on their perspective. I think this is the thing that most of the reviews missed. They just saw a shallow action game that was style over substance (as if the style wasn't worthwhile) and dismissed it without digging deeper. But if you're a fan of Suda's work and how it is often a pretty personal commentary on the medium, there's some good stuff to enjoy there. But No More Heroes 3, this is not.
Re: Videogame Deals
I had a brilliant hour with it and never felt motivated to fire it up again.
Re: Videogame Deals
Not a deal as such but my wife set up a new xbox account about two months ago and today received £4 store credit via her email through a code which was redeemable on my account. Weird!
