All Stars Battle Royale (Vita)

Easy to ignore this game but there is some surprising depth in here for some of the characters. Raiden in particular is a very fun character to fight with and the homage to the Playstation family overall feels genuine. I had some genuine fun here, more so than I was actually expecting and a great on the go title to boot.

Spoiler: show
For any beat 'em up titles, a completion is classed as either a run through arcade mode or story mode if the game has one.

01.01 - Frog Fractions // Web Browser (link)
02.01 - Grind Star // Web Browser (link)
02.01 - Hug Marine // Web Browser (link)
03.01 - Thirty Flights of Loving (x2: once with Developer Commentary) // Steam
03.01 - Gravity Bone // Steam
04.01 - Passage // iOS
04.01 - Dead Space 2 // Xbox 360
05.01 - Dishonored // Xbox 360
05.01 - Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown // Playstation 3

Total: 9
05.01 - Dishonored // Xbox 360
05.01 - Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown // Playstation 3

Dishonored: I didn't quite click with Dishonored as I was expecting to and, after 3 hours or so of play, opted to delete all my saves and start again. I'd already taken to playing through without being seen and without getting any kills. Some people criticised me for this, saying I should just aim to "enjoy the game", which I didn't understand. So few games give you the option to go through without any kills whatsoever, how could I actively not target that?
Barring an issue with Chapter 7 which is far too long (it really should be 3 different levels), it's a fantastic experience and, had I played it earlier, would have been in my top 5 games of the year. It's something I will return to and complete again this year, this time mopping up some collectibles whilst fighting my way through.

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown: It's an absolute stunner of a fighting game with animation to die for. It plays so incredibly well and rewards defence every bit as much as attack. Virtua Fighter is always a title I'm happy to fall back on and play. I rushed out and purchased Virtua Fighter 5 on its day of release back in 2007 and Final Showdown just moves on with an even more polished experience. Play it if you have the chance, it's excellent.

05/01 - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS)

Finished the first playthrough and got one of the bad endings. I immediately started NG+ to try for a different ending (there are 6). A great visual novel with a pretty good story.

Running total = 9

Ready for the podcast :)

This is like the fifth time I've completed DMC3. Really wish the HD version was available separately from the other 2. :(

05/01 - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS)
Finished all six playthroughs of 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and achieved the 'true ending'. Similar to NIER in that subsequent playthroughs significantly illuminate the narrative. Anyone who completes the minimum prerequisite for calling the game 'finished' is really missing out on the vast majority of the plot. It's a fantastic example of the DS's success with 'visual novels'.

Don't worry, I'm not going to claim six playthroughs for 999; instead I'll be counting the initial play and the 'true ending'. No new game to add the the list, but my running total now reads...

Running total = 10
The running total includes additional and repeat playthroughs (NG+, co-op, etc.), but the list is spared them to keep it shorter.

Super Mario 3D Land - All Stars normal and special
What a game! Worth the £169 for the 3DS just for that game!

Ocarina of Time 3D.
Played it a lot in the past but this is my first time finishing it. Wow. It really deserves all the praise it gets.
Now for the Master Quest.

All Stars Battle Royale
Far Cry 3
CoD: Black Ops 2
Thirty Flights of Loving

So here may be a statement not everyone will agree with but Black Ops 2 way of handling story and choice within the game are ridiculously good. They only ever make a few choices obvious but the rest are so well blended into the way I played the game as to become invisible yet each really does seem to matter in how things play out.

So while the main story is fairly bog standard in terms of the main arc (evil man attempts to take over the world yada yada yada) the way they integrate the various layers through the levels is really really impressive.

As for Thirty Flights, well that is an interesting expirience and no mistake. Although that does not necessarily mean good...

I'm going back through and getting the top of the flagpoles and clearing levels with Mario or Luigi depending who I used first.
I hear there's a super special world if you do all that. I'm happy to do it.
Most fun I've had playing any game since the Galaxy games.

Hundreds

Beat Hundreds. It's okay. Not really worth $3, let alone the $5 it'll be at when their little sale ends.
