The Ouya was created to make the Virtual Boy a sensible purchase.

Not a console, but ZX Spectrum, no question. Whether through original hardware, emulation, or more recently original hardware again, I’ve never stopped playing my favourite Spectrum games since the mid 80’s - Feud, Renegade, Shao-Lin’s Road, Elevator Action, Enduro Racer, Gauntlet, etc. are always close at hand.

I knew I was taking a gamble with that, but concluded I was keeping in the spirit of the discussion because it was effectively just a games machine, like a console. But I suppose you could also type in BASIC listings from magazines on the worst keyboard ever that were either crap or more likely just didn’t work!
I’ll fall back on Game Boy Advance SP if my Spectrum isn’t allowed. Just replace the games above with Mario Kart, F-Zero, Tony Hawks 2 and Aria of Sorrow!

Hmmm. If he's allowed to take any console ever made with its entire back catalogue and he's choosing the Spectrum, I say he's most welcome to have it! Haha. Only joking, I absolutely loved my Amstrad, all my earliest gaming memories were on that machine and it's amazing games, but given the choice of anything ever, I'm not sure I'd go with it. Although more than one game on the system would be in my top 20 of all time.

I didn’t need to think it through. 70% of my top ten games ever are on there and 55% of my top twenty. And I haven’t even got to Manic Miner at that point. I’ll never, ever covet your Mickey Mouse games, and certainly not your hedgehog ones. If you ever need a second player for Streets of Rage 2 though...
Thanks for that link clippa!

You don't need Streets Of Rage - you've got Renegade!

I played NES and SNES games for the first time when I got the Classic Minis. Really wish I could go back in time and have them first time around. Missed out massively there. My brother actually had a Megadrive. We played a lot of Virtua Racing and an ancient isometric FIFA if I remember right.

Good shout. I’ve got one on my Amazon wish list but was holding out for some hands on impressions before ordering. Which is always a risk - that NES Classic took me a couple of years to get hold of because I played that game!

PC, you didn't make a rule against emulation.
...
My serious answer would be a coin toss between the PS3 (3 generations of PS games available digitally) or the Wii U (multiple nintendo generations available digitally.)
