Pokemon direct June 5th!
Not my bag - but I understand how important this is to people.
I was expecting there to be a big Pokemon info dump at the E3 Nintendo Direct, so this probably rules out any 20 minute Smash Bros. esc affair in that respect.
I'm thrilled that they're getting it out of the way before E3 because I couldn't give two hoots about Pokemon. Hoping for some new announcements because I'm not especially excited by the upcoming Ninty stuff at the moment.
Yeah, it didn't look all that great, did it? Then again, Nintendo sometimes have really bizarre trailers and marketing strategies that aren't representative of the final products.
...I'm scared. It hurts to see my darlings being mistreated.
I'm pretty confident Animal Crossing will show up at E3. It was announced a while ago, and it's been a while since Nintendo has had a big tent-pole release, so the timing seems right for it. Also with Splatoon 2 having finally wound down its content updates (same development team) it also seems logical that they have been going full speed ahead on Animal Crossing for a while now, long enough that they have something substantial to show.
Although personally I'm not interested in Animal Crossing or Fire Emblem. Not sure what I'm hoping for. Maybe more of Astral Chain, Bayo 3, and the Link's Awakening remake. Although I'd like to see Metroid Prime 4, it seems too early to show. But I'd like to have a nice big surprise too. Suda51 hinted that he would have something to show at E3, so maybe a NMH1&2 HD collection might still be a thing. Time seems right for SMT5 to finally show up as well, although that's another I'm not too bothered by.
I hope we get some or all of the following announced over the E3 period:
- SNES games included in Switch Online
- Either a new Paper Mario game or remakes of the first two on N64 and GC
- Mario Golf
- Pilotwings reboot
- Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 remake double pack
- GTA 3 trilogy HD for Switch
- Mass Effect trilogy remasters
Erm yeah, it just want a load of remakes for Switch, basically.
EDIT: I don't actually think any of those will be announced. Just wishful thinking.
- Metroid Prime Trilogy
- Any old 3D Mario/Zelda ports they can be bothered releasing.
- ARMS 2/Expansion (neither is happening).
- Bayonetta 3
- Daemon X Machina to be much more exciting than the demo.
- Astral Chain to be Bayonetta/Nier:A tier.
Fact is that I got all my dream ports (Dark Souls, FF7, RE4) besides some old shmups, preferably Cave. I'd happily take Radiant Silvergun, though. That'd be nice.
I love it, really do. It's great for quick go games in handheld, but just as good for big sessions on the TV. I really hope they don't release a more powerful one though. A bigger and better screen would be fine, I wouldn't be bothered about missing out, but I'll be disappointed if they do put out a beefier machine with games that only run on that one (the game above, for example).
On another note, it seems some Mario Maker 2 news is seeping out of a Japanese press release.
No amiibo support what so ever and no friend based multiplayer - it’s randoms only, which sounds bad initially.
Local multi-Switch multiplayer will work as expected though.
***EDIT - The usual Nintendo twitter folk have highlighted that this info has come from event reps and may well be misinformation about the games final features.
Yeah, no friend based multiplayer would be baffling, even for Nintendo.
Aside: Does anyone play Fortnite on Switch? I'm not really a fan of the game to be honest having played it a little on PS4, but my eldest loves it and keeps asking me to download it so we can try it together. I installed it, but haven't been able to get a single game. Tried a few times over the weekend, but every time it just says it can't connect. Online works fine in general on the Switch and any other game with online aspects like leader boards etc. Just seems to be an issue I'm having with Fortnite!
