I sat down this afternoon having completely cleared through my backlog of things to sort out.
Fired up the PC and decided to start playing some minecraft, try building something.
I have the best timing ever!
Sorry guys. NEW SERVER IP today to stop Ddos attacks on our host. It is in the TOP/FIRST post in this forum link.
193.35.58.23:25578 THIS IS THE NEW IP ADDRESS. Change your login for Minecraft.
I started on my next project. Not sure I'm pleased with it. I know it doesn't look like much but doing what I'm doing is quite difficult. Doing curves in solid blocks can be sometimes hard, but doing them with liquid blocks is really fucking hard. You lose a bit of uniformity because of the flow.
I did consider making it so that lava was fully encased with glass, but that means it loses the nice flowing gradients of it stepping down the glass.
I plan to build another spiral up and then maybe put some lava struts across so it looks like a piece of DNA or something. If I'm not satisfied with it I might just flatten it and totally forget about the idea.
When I originally came up with the idea I put 4 spirals of glowstone up into the air just to make sure it was a plausible idea. I was going to do 4 spirals with earth, fire, water and air, but I could figure out what block to use for air. Sometimes I have ideas, but the methods of constructing them just are not there or I am unable to orchestrate a method of execution because I'm not as skilled as other people that play MC.
Never heard of the hopper before. What the hell is that?
The quarts blocks look great though. It's always good to get more variation in blocks for building things. Those will be great for adding detail to things. In fact there was something I was planning to build which they would be perfect for.
It's some sort of automatic funnelling device that can fill chests automatically etc. Should be good for those that have mob spawners.
I'm personally the most interested in the light sensitive thing. I think that it's a total possibility that I'll wire everything up to redstone lamps. It really depends on how much pressure it puts on the server. I might even start up on my own for when the server is down. There's enough to this game where you can do that.
I want to build my train stations all over the place too, I can bang them up in no time at all, but putting in all the arches to carry the rails is something that will take an age. I think putting the rails on a raised arches has a few different benefits. It makes it easier to build around and provides a flat surface so that a manufactured arch can be thrown up in minimal time that has known values for cart propulsion. The other benefit is that if you create a specific length of arch you can light it in such a way that mobs shouldn't be able to interfere with travel.
I should really look into making some sort of junction, although I don't think it's worth investing much time or effort into that until the redstone update comes out. The new tools could come in handy in making junctions functional. I have some idea's on how to go about it now, but as always it's nice to have a few people looking over design to make sure there are no holes in it or that a project is becoming over engineered.
