Apologies for the necrobump, but I'm approaching a milestone that's worth celebrating.

Spelunky 2 this year! Eeeeeeeeeek! What a time to be alive!

My favourite ever game bar none.
A coherent, living world where everything slots together perfectly, a semi-procedural level generation algorithm that punches your "muh hand crafted levels" enemies into submission. A pitch perfect difficulty where you're constantly teaching yourself through failure and gently pushing yourself to take more and more risks.
It has the perfect "make haste, slowly" pace, a game that occupies just enough of your brain that it's still interesting but you can play it without thinking, almost on autopilot. The perfect game to play while listening to music or podcasts. Just the perfect game.

Man, spelunky 2 has got some humongous boots to fill.

You never need to apologise for resurrecting a thread on this forum.

Great work!

Look at the bright side: It appears as if Derek Yu cares more about the quality of his finished product and/or the well-being of his employees than about following arbitrary deadlines. Like Miyamoto said: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.". Spelunky 2 will come out sooner or later and in all likelihood, it'll have benefited from the extra development time.

Instant gratification isn't your friend.

Yes, yes, I just wish he didn't have to be so bloody pompous about it!

I'm just mucking about really, I'm not upset. He says they're only slightly off schedule and I've been keeping up with the development. He hasn't gone mad but Derek has succumbed to a little bit of feature creep, it's gonna be ruddy maaaaarvelous. Some things are worth waiting for.

Definitely. Besides, I’ve still never quite beaten the original...

You should go for it! You've got the entire rest of the year before the new one.
How far can you get currently?

I play it sporadically, but my podcast gaming schedule doesn’t allow for commitment to anything else.

I’ve got to the ‘final’ (regular) boss a number of times, I’ve just not quite managed to dump him in the lava. I’ll keep playing it from time to time.

Oh wow! That's fab for someone with no time, you're on the home stretch there. I was expecting you to say the jungle, that seems to be the difficulty spike for most folk. It's only a matter of time. Olmec's days are numbered!

Yeah, you'll breeze through that if you find a jetpack. Have you given up or do you still have the odd go sometimes too?

It’s permanently installed on PS4 and when I have a spare 15 mins I do the daily challenge.

Oh, they have the dailies on console now? That's cool. It's one thing I never really did, I think I only did the dailies once or twice. I might do one the next time I play.

On PS4 anyway, yes, since 2014 or whenever it came out. Not on the last gen versions though.

I'll very occasionally have a go on it on Vita, and my eldest play co-op on PS4 now and then, but no I don't really play it any more. It never really clicked with me to be honest, which is odd because I should love it on paper, but just never found it that much fun.
