Is that "black label arrange" mode?
Yes, it is!

It's a version of DDPR BL that incorporates a number of elements from Ketsui. Really cool stuff. :)

:(

You were even ahead of my previous record in terms of raw scoring at that point! Very sorry, man. I've died multiple times at those giant penultimate ships and it's the worst feeling in the world.

Have you turned WAIT back on, at least? I couldn't tell from the footage.

Anyway, don't give up!

Bet you've got it uploaded to youtube all ready to go.
Your mind goes to strange places sometimes, you know?

No, I haven't planned any devious trap of that sort. I am however still playing the game regularly and noticing incremental progress, so I'm definitely still in the race!

EDIT: Besides, the in-game replay function saves the exact date of the run.

Danmaku Unlimited 3 is on offer, £4.04.

Can't say I have fully connected with this one yet (largely due to discovering older games I'd say) but I will go back to it.

I'm starting to think you guys are called Generation X because you always have a convenient excuse at the ready for everything. :P

Right here you go there’s my starter for ten, a pitiful effort where I got to the stage 3 boss before needing a continue:

Image

All together now “awwwwww”

I went for spirit mode on easy. That means it does auto bombs if you’re gonna get hit. Scoring potential is probably wank, but it’s the easiest mode. I guess pick whatever you fancy though it doesn’t matter, I doubt there are rules with this sort of n00b on n00b action! Haven’t tried much other than default stuff, no idea what ships do etc or different patterns, it seems fun without changing stuff so I haven’t bothered yet.

I have put a few goes into this since getting it but like I say it’s not clicked yet so it’s a good excuse to have a play! I’m gonna push on till my continues run out, would be nice to see all the stages, this is one where you don’t get infinite continues, like Neko Navy (though that’s where comparisons with that game end)

Hope you enjoy it dude!

Side note: this isn’t an easy or particularly accessible shmup in my opinion, which kinda flies in the face of what I’ve seen read about it. I find it tough even on the easiest mode and the bullet patterns a few stages in start getting quite fast and sporadic, from all angles and I keep ending up in impossible scenarios. Makes it fun to chip away at though!

It’s a good job I enjoy getting my arse handed to me by these games that’s for sure. Time for one more go before bed :)

OK so my first effort got to the stage 3 boss as well. Managed a pitiful 3.4 million. That was also on easy.

I then tried 'true' mode. Oh dear.

Yeah, I recall you mentioning it - I did buy Danmaku 2 in the Steam sale for a ludicrously cheap price on your recommendation, I will be playing that at some point!

Glad to see 3 isn't just me... From all the shmups I've been playing, I thought going back to Danmaku 3 might mean I get further and use the skills I've "built up" etc... Nah. I did get my best score by a million or so though, but after dying on the Stage 3 boss I had used up all my lives / continues on the Stage 4 boss. Which is fucking ridiculous with mad patterns flying all over the place and feels like a real difficulty spike.

The Vasara Collection was activated on my Switch last night and I had a quick go on the first game and Vasara Timeless. Wow, these games are no joke in the difficulty department. They're like Psikyo shooters for people who have mastered those games. Is it me or are the hitboxes of the player characters just way too big for the amount and density of projectiles that fly around?

Just had a look at them, and I love the style. Seems pointless me getting them at this point, though.

Here's a question - in arcade games, why is it called Tate mode when you flip the screen sideways?
