A pain them being on ITV though as I'm not sure the ITV players supports 'watch from the start' option the same way the BBC iPlayer does. Unless anyone knows different? I won't be able to watch the first half of France/Germany if not, boooo!

I have to use the STV app and that lets me watch from the beginning so I imagine ITV should be the same!

First half Hungary-Portugal has been very entertaining so far. Before the game, I fully expected them to be behind by halftime, but they have really brought their A-game, given their major underdog status.

That first half went by too quickly! Could easily be 2 - 2 at HT but an unfortunate OG is all that’s in it.

Missed a few minutes at the end there due to the STV player going to ads - I imagine someone was sick of listening to Clive and Ally - but I thought most of the game was quite good! High degree of defence work and some decent attacks. Thought Germany would get the goal but just couldn’t get it in the end.

Germany really miss a Klose or Gomez like striker who they used to have.

Man, how good are the Italians at the minute! Missed the first two games due to being a busy day at work and getting my first vaccine right during the Wales game but that Italy game was about as good as a team has looked all tournament. I just wonder if they can replicate it against the better teams.

Would love to see Italy Vs France right about now. The Italians are just so organised with the way they play.

Neither team looks like losing at the moment, so It would be incredible seeing them in a knock-out, winner-takes-all game.

Wales just need to hold their nerve and not drop any goals against the Swiss, but they're pretty much through. Good for them.

I really don’t think you can make much of the Italians against 2 inferior teams who seem to just be happy to be at the tournament. Wales on the other hand are a different prospect. They aren’t here to make up the numbers so will be more challenging for the admittedly technically superior Italy. I still think Italy will win but it’s be less like a training match.

I loved Bale at the end defying pretty much all footballing logic and running towards the goal twice in the dying seconds. If it comes down to goal difference that could prove amazingly crucial.

France on the other hand beat tournament masters Germany so I’d favour them at the moment. That group is the group of death so whoever wins that group could well be the team to beat.

*England - Scotland game. ;)

Decent game but I feel England didn’t really get out of third gear. Maybe playing for second place?

Yeah I thought the game itself was fairly entertaining, but really disappointed with England. Scotland seemed far more aggressive and eager to score. And I don't buy the whole 'aiming for 2nd place' thing at all, I don't believe any team ever goes out not to win.

Not at this stage of the group no, but I think it does happen in the next stage sometimes if a drawer suits both teams. I can’t remember the teams now but there was a infamous match in a previous euros where the two teams would go through with a draw and the match was so bad that both teams supporters were booing their teams for not trying and I even think the game got investigated by uefa but I might be wrong on that point.

The format of this tournament means that 'biscotti' matches (as the Italians call them) are quite likely in round three.

The most famous international example of teams deliberately playing out a mutually beneficial result was Austria v West Germany at Espana '82:

Ah that's really interesting, thanks for the link.

This quote is amazing: "El Comercio, the local newspaper, printed the match report in its crime section"

Certainly the next round will be interesting. Scotland’s aim remains the same regardless: beat Croatia. I think this game will simply be down to who wants it more. On paper Croatia will be favourites but we all know that doesn’t mean much in these competitions.

The thing about coming first in this group is whatever team it is will (most likely) have go into the next round against a team who are expected to reach the quarters, semi’s or even final of the competition. I’d avoid that if I could. I think if England draw against the Czech’s, that more or less confirms their stance as they’ve more than enough in the team to brush aside Czech Republic. As I said though, favourites to win doesn’t stand for much, I don’t see why England can’t face Germany/Portugal/France in the knockout stage and win! Would love to see an old fashioned England v Germany!

There's not been many really exciting matches so far, has there. Hoping Portugal vs Germany has a bit of action.
