Had a long train journey so I thought I'd play new star soccer for the first time since the update. It's not as fun as it used to be due to the fact it's pretty difficult to progress now without spending money. The in game stuff is still great but if you don't have an agent/trainer now you end up struggling to finish games or wear boots!.

Not been able to put down Batman: Arkham Origins since I've started playing it. The boss battles are genuinely excellent, exciting and challenging. The story is fantastic and it's nice to see a few characters that I've never heard of or that have been mere cameos before make an appearance. The detective mode has been expanded on and you feel like the "world's greatest detective" when examining them. My only slight crumbles are the camera isn't as snappy as City/Asylum and I've had a couple of times where a waypoint has "crashed" meaning I have to kill myself to restart and progress. If you love the others then I'd highly recommended picking it up now it's around £20. I wrote this off as soon as I saw it wasn't rocksteady and regret it now. In a weird way it reminds me of metroid prime.

Oh and a big bonus for me there's no riddler trophies ;)

There is collectibles but not to that extent.

Felt like shooting people in the head whilst diving slowly on the floor thus emptying the last few remaining bullets laying on my back.

Max Payne 3 is superb.

Love that game, currently £5 in Sainsburys or £7 in Asda if you fancy a dabble.

I actually quite like that one. It still kind of has the same problems that I have with other top-downs, but they seemed less egregious than some others. I like the miniaturising mechanic too.

Anyway, today I've been playing a load of Forza. Not Forza 5 though. I started off playing that because I wanted to try and work on my drift setup some more. I just can't get it fucking working. It's a real pain. The window of grip you have is so tiny. You can hardly push the car at all and it just slips away from you so quickly and with almost no warning, and there's nothing you can do to save it most of the time. It seems like every car is like that. And every time I try to change my tune setup to try to make it better, it just makes it worse every time. Kerbs are evil as well. If you touch them mid-drift, it's almost always an instant spin-out. So yeah, I quickly got frustrated with it. To be honest, I think I'm already starting to feel my interest in that game waning away. Normal driving is still fun, but the career mode is really short. Or short for a Forza career at least. The way it's structured isn't as good as the Season Play mode in 3 and 4. And of course there's the lack of general content constantly dampening the experience. And the aggravating AI. At least the Prague track is good.

But anyway, I decided to go play Forza 4 again, and actually had a really great time with it. Probably the longest session I've had on it since Forza 5 came out. Just joined in some random drift lobbies online. Another thing you can't do in Forza 5. But yeah, it was good going back and playing around with cars I can actually use. Usually I find going back to older Forzas is a bit tough, because I've forgotten how to drift in that particular game. Takes a while to get used to it again. Had no problem this time though. Although I guess I haven't been away long, and still haven't got used to 5 yet. But yeah, I enjoyed going back to that and driving cars that aren't in 5, on tracks that aren't in 5 either.

Then that lead me to boot up Forza 3, which I haven't been on properly for an absolute age. Started off just messing around with an old drift car on that too, but I have kind of lost my touch on that game. I'll need to practice a bit more to get that back. Although, perhaps not so much. The other day a friend and I decided to have a quick go on Forza 2 just for a laugh. Picked up drifting in that again pretty easily. So maybe I could have picked up 3 again if I tried a little more. But instead of that, I played a whole lot of career races. Had a go on some tracks that are only in 3. There were some great tracks in that game that weren't in any other Forza. I also did one of the endurance races too. Another thing later Forza games dropped. 1 hour and 6 minutes on Silverstone. Perfect time to catch up on some podcasts though. I'm also kind of aiming to get 100% completion in that game too. I'm quite a long way off, but I'm still trying to get there one day. And when I do it'll be one of the very few games I'll have ever got 100% of the achievements on too.

Played a little of TDU2 as well. I forgot what bollocks the career mode is on that. I've almost finished it, so I went back to it to try that last push today, but it's just such wank I couldn't stomach more than a few races. I still like the game, but the career is so terrible. It's so unbalanced too. The normal races against AI are piss easy, because the AI in the game is utterly awful. But other events are brutally hard. But the physics in that game are a bit wonky, so you can be totally screwed over by going over a jump a certain way, leading to your car to do a random barrel roll out of nowhere and destroying that attempt at the event. That actually happened to me today. Also, the way this particular tournament it organised make it even worse. Usually you can pick what order you do individual events in, and it doesn't really matter if you don't win all of them because it's based on a points total. But with this tournament I'm on, you have to do each event in order, and you need to win every single one to progress. So fucking annoying. And there's that idiotic voice over too at the beginning of every race. Ugh. At least you don't get it again when you restart an event.

Outstanding game, had a silly amount of fun playing it.
Spoiler: show
That moment when you're fighting through wave after wave of enemies in the airport terminal and that Health track fades up in the mix, one of my favourite moments in games from 2012

I agree, a moment of gaming magic.
I've completed it numerous times myself and have actually 'rinsed' that game for it's full achievement score including DLC. I even did all of the Multiplayer legitimately (and enjoyed it!)

I've been trying my hardest to play through Luigi's mansion 2 but have given up, it's boring. It looks great and the sound aspect is brilliant but I just can't get into it. I feel like I'm restricted to a linear path and whenever the game seems to open up it's back to the professor for another talk or he phones. I would like some freedom to explore rather than getting a pop up whenever I get to something interesting.

I've started on Rayman Origins on vita and have saints row 4 waiting to be played :)

After taking some time out to play Revengence, Nier, Mario 3D World and Monster Hunter, I'm back on the path to completing Demon's Souls. I just finished the Shrine of Storms (first timed it all too, not one death!), so I've just got the Valley of Defilement left to finish. Not sure what's up after that, I've been avoiding all spoilers.

Bayonetta is hard. Really hard. Wonderful 101 was much easier than this... What the heck is going on? I haven't got a single medal above Stone since the prologue. It's insane

Apart from that, it's good, when I'm not getting my ass handed to me. I get the occasional taste of combo bliss. Every now and then I'll suddenly pull off an amazing string of moves and beat the guys who just killed me 3 times in a row.

I have been pretty sleep deprived for the past few days, though, so maybe that's why I'm so bad at it.
Like, what do I do against enemies who are coated in flames? Do I just have to Witch Time their attacks?

Oh and on a related note: Thank god for Platinum's generous use of autosaving. Can't imagine playing this game without it.

I had the same experience with Bayonetta. It is rock hard, but really damn rewarding for it. It never feels unfair. But when you go back to earlier chapters after finishing the game feels a lot easier, and getting better medals is a lot more common.

And yes, for enemies covered in flames you do need to get in to Witch Time for them. I don't think you have to do it every time though. I'm sure I've beaten flaming enemies many times before without having to use Witch Time. I'm not sure exactly how I did that though. I think the flames only last for a limited length of time, so you can just wait until they die down too.

Just spent 5 hours solid attempting to do the approximately 90 second level "Victory Road" on Super Mario 3D world, what a jarring difficulty spike, I want to hurt the level designer. That said, I have all stars in the game, what a thrill!

If you've unlocked Victory Road, you've hit the top of every flagpole, gotten every star and found every stamp; I don't think it's that much of a spike in difficulty at all.

Couldn't agree less. Victory road requires perfect control, no mid level flag, no mushrooms or power ups present in the level and patience and timing by the bucket load. No other level befoee this felt close to this challenge and collecting the stars and flags was blasé by comparison. I did those with a grin on my face with my seven year old son. It was akin to dark souls in difficulty. Anyone else finished it?

I've got to the race track section once. I've died more than 100 times on it by now. It's incredibly difficult, but it is the super secret final level, so I was expecting that

Picked up the HD remake of Assassin's Creed Liberation for the 360 (having the season pass for AC4 gets you a discount of 4 quid for the next week or so).

It's a little bare bones, for example the townsfolk don't seem to have any ambient dialogue apart from 'bonjour' and 'mmmm, hmmm', and I don't buy that it's because they had disc space issues.

I like the idea of Aveline having outfits she switches between, each with different levels of access to her weaponry and skills, and each having a unique ability. So when she's dressed as a lady she can't climb or jump at all, but is able to distract guards and doesn't gain notoriety as quickly, whereas the Assassin outfit gives her access to everything but at the penalty of always being at at least one notch up on the notoriety scale, so the guards are always a problem. It always bugged me in the early games how Altair and Ezio could just wander about in their VERY OBVIOUS assassin gear and not have anyone spot them (the fact that if she's wearing the slave disguise literally everything you do causes a bump in notoriety is also pretty in-keeping with the setting)

I think I'm probably going to leave off it for a while though, I think I'm a little burnt out with the Creed games after playing AC4 at the end of last year and having only just finished Freedom Cry. Definitely come back to it later in the year and finish it though.

Started Tomb Raider (2013) last night. I'm still in the starting stages but am really quite impressed with it.
It looks stunning, so much so that when the cammra closes onto Lara I have thought that a cut scene has started and wondered why she is not doing anything only to realize that I was still in control of her! Is it me or are the QTE's a bit on the hard side? I seam to fail them all first time! Are they making sure we get to see all the deaths?

I'm getting a Lost vibe from the story so far and quite like it, though some of what befalls Lara does seam to go into torture porn territory and feels a bit uncomfortable to watch. I was aware going in to the game that some people had found this too so I don't know if I was looking out for it when playing also if this was not a tomb Raider game and the controllable character was male I bet people would not bat an eye lid.
