If you look on the PSN store now, in the January sale section, God Eater 2 is £15 on Vita, and £30 on PS4. But it's cross buy. So you might as well buy the Vita version, hadn't you? Am I missing something, here? I'm tempted to get it, but it seems like a bit of an odd mistake, unless I'm missing something? Anyone else who knows about the games able to check it out and let me know, I don't want to pay for the Vita version with playing the PS4 version in mind, and have messed up!

January 2017 PS+ releases:

Day of the Tentacle Remastered (PS4, PS Vita)
This War of Mine: The Little Ones (PS4)
Blazerush (PS3)
The Swindle (PS3, PS4, PS Vita)
Azkend 2
Titan Souls (PS Vita, PS4)

I'm well pleased with that! Day Of The Tentacle, This War Of Mine and The Swindle are all games I've been wanting to buy for ages but never got around to it, glad I held off now! I'm sure people will moan about the lack of AAA titles, but this couldn't be better for me! Nice selection.

I'm interested in getting a Playstation TV. Should have got one when I was looking months back as Amazon had them for under £30, but the price has doubled now! Anyone got one they don't use that they want to sell for a decent price?

Haha at the risk of turning this in to a one man thread - does anyone know whether it's possible to unlock the PS4 disc drive so it plays any region DVDs? I have a lot of USA films I bought years back when I had a region free DVD player, which I've not been able to play since only using my console to watch films on.

Hihi at Alex's five posts in a row. :D

Unfortunately, I've not yet heard of a reliable method to bypass the console's regional lockout for DVD playback. Which is a complete anti-consumer cramp to begin with, of course, so I think that sticking with the region free DVD player is still your best bet.

I thought the PS4 didn't play dvds. Or is it only Blu-Rays?

It does play both, but still adheres to regional lockout conventions. Perhaps you're thinking of audio CDs? I think it doesn't play those.

Oh does it not? That's weird. I assumed you'd be able to rip music discs to the hard drive. Irrelevant I suppose with Spotify and/or USB access.

No, Sony removed that feature when moving onto the PS4. It just flew under everybody's radar on account of audio CD being widely considered a dated and low-status format. Or something. Personally I think it's dumb, if you're going to have a disc drive might as well allow it to support as many formats as possible, but what can you do. Flashy new toys and all that.

Edit: And I object to it being irrelevant due to online services. It's not like people's CD collection magically turned into dust overnight. And it's also not like you can immediately find everything you're looking for nor that you have any guarantee that these services will still be available 20 years from now. Nothing more than a low-key cash grab (Sony's decision I mean, not online services in general).

The argument that digital media somehow renders physical media obsolete is a complete non sequitur in my opinion. Both have pros and cons, so why can't we have and choose between both?

Well, what I meant by irrelevant was that you could rip the CD on a computer and transfer to PS4 via USB stick. Which would be infinitely more convenient (once done) than putting the disc in the drive when you wanted to listen to something. Afterall, I can't imagine anyone seriously considering using the PS4 to actually listen to audio CDs on.

If the console was only able to play audio CDs, then I see your point. However, both the 360 and the PS3 give the user the possibility to rip the content of the inserted CD directly onto the internal HDD without the need to use a PC as intermediate. So it's a step backwards any way I look at it.

...Am I missing anything? :/

No, you're right. It does seem like a pointless omission.

I mean, on the other hand, I do appreciate Sony's design philosophy of trying to simplify and streamline the PS4's UI, which is a significant step up in terms of QoL and clarity when compared to the cluttered mess of the PS3. And that includes removing useless features. But this particular decision seems like a gratuitous misstep to me.

Guys, don't you know? You don't need a disc drive or physical media! Because we have clouds! You know, like, everything is in the cloud, and servers are the most reliable thing, like, ever?!? OMG amiright!?!

Very sad news about the closure of Guerilla Cambridge.

RIGS is a fantastic game and the best thing I've played on PSVR to date. I also thoroughly enjoyed Killzone Mercenary on Vita. Hope everyone effected gets back on their feet quickly and that Sony retain as many of those talented folk as they can!

Puyo Puyo Tetris has finally been announced for the West for PS4. (And the Switch).

I already bought and played this in Japanese because I never, ever thought it would get released in English.

The upside is its only $30!

Quick heads up for anyone who bought Slain: Back From Hell on PS4 (although I think I'm the only one!) - I got it in a sale a while back, played a bit and thought 'Eh it's ok, but I probably won't really play it on PS4. Shame it's not on Vita', then they brought it out on Vita but it wasn't cross buy. Well now it is. Don't know when that happened, but I was browsing the current sale and noticed it was. So if you bought the PS4 version you can now download the Vita version, where it's a much better fit.

That game looks awesome! I really want to try it, and I saw it on sale, but there's so many other things I have t get thru first. Maybe if it goes on sale around summer I'll get it, and definitely a good Vita title!! It has replaced Salt and Sanctuary as my new must have for Vita.
