Just finished Blue Eye Samurai. My first anime. Enjoyed it, what I liked most about it was the choreography for the fight scenes which were really well done and superbly animated. Could’ve of done without all the sex scenes which I think they went over board with and I wasn’t as into the political storyline with the shogun but they were both minor critiques

I just watched Kinds of Kindness and it's fantastic. It's Yorgos Lanthimos making a bleak anthology movie with 3 stories about some really fucked up relationships. It's an extremely black comedy that features just about every disturbing thing you could put in a film. That being it's fantastic and I'd recommend to anyone who's a fan of his work especially Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Hands down my favourite film of the year. I’ll admit that some of it being CGI was ever so slightly disappointing after fury road but that doesn’t mean the action isn’t spectacular to watch and still a lot of it is real stunts. 4.5/5

Just wrapped up watching Servant last night. Started well but lost steam in season 3 and continued to unravel completely in season 4.
Started it after watching The First Omen and enjoying Nell Tiger Free's performance. She's pretty good in Servant, too, but the writing isn't that strong past the first season.

I 100% agree, the world missed a trick by letting this go by and not making it a huge hit. Very different from Fury Road but an amazing film in its own right. George Miller just making the best films in 80s is a beautiful thing.

Do you guys use Letterboxd? (I know Truk_Kurt does). I like it quite a bit and if you're into movies and like to track directors, release years, actors, whatever, check it out.
You can write reviews, check out what your friends have been watching, make lists, etc etc. It's a good time.
Anyway, feel free to add me if you use it! My account name is Nateclark

If you're much of a reader, I recommend you check out the book Blood, Sweat and Chrome which is all about the making of Mad Max Fury Road.

Oh thanks, that’s a great recommendation. Will definitely pick that up.

Deadpool & Wolverine
I thought I was ok, I really like Ryan Reynolds as deadpool and I thought it was funny. I just thought it was too fan servicey. If you’re a big comics and marvel fan I can see why you’d think it’s great but for someone like me with less knowledge of some of these characters the constant cameos got exhausting. Plus that returning dog was just as bad as the goats in Thor for me Clive. Probably give it 2.5/5

Xmen: First Class
Enjoyed it. I did miss Wolverine being in it though. I really liked the relationship between Mcavoy and Fassbender in their roles. I thought the core plot with the missiles was a bit dull though and Schmidt paled in comparison as a villain to Magneto. I’d have it as my third favourite of those I’ve watched so far. Current ranking is
Xmen
X2
First Class
X3: The Last Stand
Xmen Origins Wolverine

Just watched Prometheus for the first time since seeing it at the cinema. I don’t get the hate for this film. I still really like it. It has so many great scenes. The glass storm, the bit where the worm thing gets in his helmet, and I’m sorry but the vasectomy scene is one of the my favourite scenes in the whole franchise. And Fassbender is so good. A few of the crew members are either forgettable or just poor characters like the geologist but that’s pretty much the extent of my complaints with it.

Alien Covenant
It wasn’t as bad as I remember. The main problem I think is that the crew are all pretty forgettable characters, I didn’t really feel much of anything when any of them got killed off and I think compared to all the others it’s just quite a dull film with only one or two scenes which stand out whereas the others have more. As with Prometheus, Micheal Fassbender is the stand out as David. I’d give it a 2/5

Decent anime on Netflix you might like, Jay. Not sure if you've spoken about it before, but it's called Scavengers Reign. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm only a couple of episodes in, but good so far!

Yeah, I watched this a while back when it was originally released via HBO but watched it again when it came to Netflix, definitely worth your time as I thought it was pretty damn good.

We watched Cabin In The Woods last night. I'd been aware of the 'twist' in the film for ages but not seen it (although it's not really a twist I suppose as you're aware right from the start what's happening). I enjoyed it and liked how delightfully silly it got towards the end. My GF did not.

Just watched Prey (2022) after having it on my watchlist for ages. I thought it was great. Looked amazing too with the 4K and Dolby Vision on my new telly!
Got me thinking though, I'd love an open world game set in this time. You have other games that had elements of native American culture (Assassins Creed 3, bits of Red Dead Redemption 2) but a big open world with an interesting story, maybe even supernatural elements, that could be really cool.
