Re: Videogame News
It is a fair point, but that's the same as saying Martin Scorsese or Stanley Kubrick weren't entirely responsible for their films, and they kind of were.

Re: Videogame News
If you believe directing a movie is the same as directing a video game then yes, I suppose it is.
It isn't though. Not even close.

Re: Videogame News
Well no, obviously there's a lot more work involved in a game than producing a film, but it's still one persons artistic vision. I wasn't really arguing the point (or I suppose I literally was, thinking about it) but I just mean I do think it's possible for one person to be a sole creator of a game (whether Kojima is or not is a different debate) despite hundreds (or thousands) of people working on it.

Re: Videogame News
I don't know how Kojima runs his studios, but it hasn't been my own experience in the industry so far.
Re: Videogame News
I wounder what this means for silent Hills. P.T was one of my most memberble gaming experances of last year.
Re: Videogame News
Having played almost all Kojima games and metal gear games without Kojima I can say with no doubt that you can tell which games are Kojima's and which arent and those who are not are definetly lesser because of it if you want a perfect example take Portable ops vs Peace Walker one was done by Kojima's staff without him and it's considered the weaker metal gear title in the "cannon" the later was made with Kojima and it's my second favorite game in the whole series. It's not just about the game quality either whether you like or not every metal gear game has a theme and a message crafted by Kojima and crew it's 100% his message(he didnt write all of it) but he has full control over it and that once again is shown by which games he directed and which he didnt that's the artistic core of the series and that's what kept people coming back to the series, games done by corporate biding like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed have no such thing and that's what they are gonna turn Metal Gear into, and lastly Metal Gear has always being tied to Kojima's life just look at MGS4 and you will see the paralels of Kojima's life and the game and every game in the series reflects that. Hideo Kojima is intrinsically tied to Metal Gear there's no avoiding it,however it seems Konami is gonna go ahead with it's idotic plans:
I really cant stress how shamefull this is MGSV isnt even out they are already planning to milk the series corpse,I hope Konami enjoys losing customers because Im never gonna buy another game from those idiots after MGSV

Re: Videogame News
I'm going to have to draw the line at saying that Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed have no merit artistically.
Fine to not like them, but many of the games in those series have strong messages and good emotional core to their plots. From the strong anti-war message of the first Modern Warfare to the deft handling of the Haitian revolution in Assassin's Creed 4, there's plenty there that should be considered worthy.
I guess for me I just don't buy into the idea that something is only good if there's an auteur in control of it. That everything needs to be driven by the vision of one man in order to have merit.
(It probably doesn't help that I haven't liked a Metal Gear game since Solid on the PS1 so I'm not exactly objective here)
The way some gaming sites are reporting this it's as if Kojima has died and will never make another game again.
One thing I do object to is the pettiness of stripping all trace of his name from the projects. I'm a firm believer that everyone should be credited for the work they've done. I've fought for that in places I've worked in the past, as has the IGDA and other organisations.

Re: Videogame News
Sorry but after those series were annualized and different studios were handed them to work every year they lost much if not all of their artistic merit they are more product than art and that's how their company and I'd guess most of the fans view them now and I say this as someone who loved those 2 series.
Im not saying that games that dont have 1 mind behind it are worthless I like many games that dont fit that category but I personally feel that games that do have 1 vision behind have more focus and tend to stick with you more just look at the many indie games driven by one or two people this gets hard in AAA with 100's of devs working but those games still exist and the Metal Gear series is not only one of them it's the greatest example of them and I cant just see Konami trying to cast this aside and say nothing, besides it's not only Kojima getting thrown out it's the entirety of upper staff of Kojima Productions(or should I say those who dont exist because not even the company name Konami is allowing to stay)the folks that have been there from the start,so yeah fuck that company!

Re: Videogame News
Yeah I love the GoW games, seems odd just to choose that one to do though. They could at least port the HD collection of 1&2 and bung those on the disc as well.

In happier news Gravity Rush might be coming back: http://gematsu.com/2015/03/gravity-rush ... 4-in-korea

Re: Videogame News
Broken Age coming to Playstation at the end of April. Great news! I've been hoping for a Vita port for ages.

I should have waited, adventure games are very convenient on the Vita - I can't justify double dipping on this one though.Alex79uk wrote:Broken Age coming to Playstation at the end of April. Great news! I've been hoping for a Vita port for ages.

Re: Videogame News
So I've been catching up to some news and there's some cool stuff:
First is the assassins creed China,India and Russia reveal and it looks pretty cool we finnaly get to move beyond the west for a change and see new and interesting places I wonder what they'll do with the storylines there, the gameplay also seems to be a less well done Mark of the Ninja but hey if it's half as good it's gonna be a good game and it's good to see the series kinda of return to it's more stealth focused roots, the only thing that bums me out about this is that this probably puts the last nail in the coffing of us ever seeing these regions in a mainline Assassins creed game which is a shame because if they did that I would be back in a heartbeat.
Second is the trailer of the new Deus Ex that while doesnt show much at least let us know that it's being made I kinda dont like that we get Adam Jensen again because in my ending he's definitly dead but the end of the game was kinda bad anyway so maybe they'll fix that in the beginning of the sequel, other than that cool that they are making the bridge of Human revolution's new Renaissance to the original Deus Ex dark ages,I wonder what they'll do next probably a remake of the original(which would probably be bad) or go in different direction and estabilish this as it's own universe.
