I made some real progress this weekend, beating the Blood Starved Beast, Vicar Amelia and Witch of Hemwick. I'm now trudging through the Forbidden Forest.
However, as much as I'm enjoying the game, and that I do feel like I'm moving forward, I can't see me ever finishing it. I'm already at a point where I stick it on, don't really get s far as I'd hope then switch it off.
I've no idea what percentage through I am, but the shine is already coming off a bit. I worry if I leave it too long the task of going back will be too daunting.

I don't want to spoil the experience for you but you have made good progress! Follow the path you're on and you'll remain on the critical path.

I'm sure I'll stick with it.
It's one of those silly games where when I'm playing it, I get burnt out and can't see how I'm going to move forward. But then when I'm not playing I'm thinking about it, reading about it, watching videos about it.
I've never played a game that's got in claws into me this way. It's odd that I find myself hating it, but at the same time loving it just as much. It's pretty special in that regard.

Chopper wrote:Rom gave me a lot of trouble to start with but here's how I did it:
You can kill all the spiders in the first wave at your leisure, clear them all out and this means you won't have to deal with as many in waves 2 & 3. Then lay into Rom with heavy attacks, preferably with fire or electricity paper on your weapon. Even when he tries to disappear, you can land an extra two blows if you time it right, doing big damage. At this stage he was near half-health for me.
Then for the next two waves of spiders, approach Rom head on and you can just roll through them to his side (it helps if there is a small channel). Land one blow and get out of there. You may have to run around a little to disperse the minions a bit, but generally you can roll through everything at this stage.
You still need to get a wee bit lucky with Rom's attacks, but stay close enough that he doesn't launch stuff from the sky and you're golden.
Remember, take the time to kill all the first wave of spiders and the rest are manageable (I didn't try and kill any more).
Thanks for the advice I followed it and I beat Rom first try!I was trying to kill all of the spiders and as you can expect that wasnt turning out very well.
So I think Im on the last third of the game now so I went back and re-explored all the areas in the game I already been to see if something changed and it was a sad affair in traditional souls fashion, well I can join a covenant now I guess.I also went to Cainhurst castle and Im happy to see that the only thing still missing from the game is found here ,really cool area overall even if I got stomped when I first got there.

It took me over two years to finish Dark Souls, feeling like I wasn't making progress and hitting walls. It was a slog but I still think it's one of the best games I've ever played.

Wow. Very impressive

First night of Bloodborne involved lots of deaths but lots of excitement. Definitely liking the more aggressive approach to combat.
Quick question though: I don’t seem to have a way to level up my character yet. Am I missing something or do I have to hit a certain point before that becomes available?

You have to at least meet a boss before you can access the level up.

It should only be a short way in but after speaking to Gehrman in the hunter's dream and playing for a little while another character should start appearing (or at least become more apparent) when returning there from any lamp in the game, speaking to this character should give you the option to level.

Thanks for the info. That's different from Demons and Dark Souls right? I seem to remember being able to level straight away with those.

Thanks Mike. Will hopefully get to explore a bit more this evening.

So I made so good progress I beat Cainhurst castle but Im not sure what to do with for now so I might go back I dont wanna do something without knowing the consequences if you know what I mean,I then went through Yar'gul and man those 3 NPC's are terrible to fight other than that really cool area probably one of my favorites in the game at least visually and thematically and the boss was a piece of cake,I also went through most of the Nightmare of Mensis and found a new hatred for the Frenzy mechanic other than that while I like the area storywise it isnt very interesting until you find a bajillion blood gems! the first boss was also really weird once again interesting from a story perpective but really boring and easy to fight. To make up for that the second boss of Nightmare of Mensis is kicking my ass and I can barely get a hit in before it chops me to death so I think I give that a break and try to explore the rest of cathedral ward with a key I found in Yar'gul.

So Im sitting right in front of the fog gate to the final boss of the game however I cant bring myself to enter and this is why, apparently there's a glitch that breaks an elevator that's the only way into a certain boss that happened to me so now I cant fight that boss no matter what,it's an optional boss sure but I have to kill it!So take my advice and make sure you all send the elevator back after you use it because I dont know if this can happen in other parts of the game,by the way dont look for the game's ost on youtube because the final boss was spoiled for me because of that...well at least some interesting(tragic) things happened when I got to 99 insight and decided to run through the entire world again so there's that.

last night I finally beat the fucking Chikage Hunter that takes up residence in the Cathedral post defeating Rom. that fucking guy took me all week to finally do it but it was seriously satisfying. I recorded it and watching it back I realised how much I fucked up but it made for the mostbutt clenching end to the fight I could imagine, although watching it back I realised how much I fucked up towards the end. I wish I'd had a mic for the recording just to have a record of my victory cry

Your next post almost covers the solution if that's any help, does it involve an NPC by any chance?
Cryptic spoiler but
How does this game stand up to Dark Souls. I'm hugely excited to play it at some point, but I must admit the lack of shields and blocking has worried me a bit, does it affect the gameplay much? With blocking playing such an integral part of the Souls games it seems like a huge part of playing has been stripped out. I realise it's a different game, but at the same time it's still in the Souls family I guess, isn't it?

It is definitely a Souls game and still feels like Dark Souls. I played through Dark Souls with a shield so it did take a few hours (and a lot of deaths) to get used to it, as i kept letting enemies attack me and hitting what would be the shield button.
Also dodging is a lot better in Bloodborne, much more responsive and quicker.

The Cainhurst covenant and the unopened summons,I wasnt sure if should enter that covenant or give Alfred the summons in the end I failed to do both because I plain forgot, but yeah Ebrietas would unlock a way to revive the Queen and allow me to do both I guess but alas the elevator wasnt having it XD
And Andy dont worry BloodBorne has a shield,it's a crappy wooden shield that's in the game as a joke but hey,but yeah there's not such thing as blocking and attacking you have to dodge and attack there's is a parry but it's done with the gun and not the shield, you gotta attack attack attack and thankfully stamina allows for much more attacks and dodge than any souls games before and the whole leveling system has been streamlined to be simpler but yeah other than that it's a souls game through and through.

OK, why are blood vials taking life off me? Is this a bug or a 'feature'?
