The videogame music thread
Nothing to do with the original Irem coin-op, but the legendary Chris Huelsbeck composed this for Factor 5's Amiga conversion of the game

This piece of music from Darksiders 2 is brilliant. It plays during the intro and a specific boss battle. The soundtrack in general is a vast improvement on the original.

I struggle to listen to this piece from the MGS4 score without getting at least a little emotional. In part, due to remembering the scene in which it's used for - a genuinely, beautiful composition.
This and the track The Best is Yet to Come are, without any doubt, my two favourite tracks from the entire Metal Gear Solid series.

A smattering of selections. Some are kind of cheating as they're cover versions, but what the hey. They're still kickass.

"I was Born for This" - The touching ending tune of beautiful "Journey" always gets me emotional (the whole OST by Austin Wintory is stunning) - Even more moving to know the lyrics :')
Also love the OST of epic "Shadow of the Colossus" composed by Kow Otani - Particularly the tune "Revived Power" that does sound like it gives you power!

I've spent the last couple of months listening to the Mass Effect soundtracks on Spotify. They are brilliant, as I'm sure almost everyone knows. Really good blend of orchestral and synth stuff. Some of it sounds like the old Blade Runner soundtrack.
This is an amazing piece of music, rivals anything I've ever heard in a movie.

An oldie but a goodie. Nearly finished my cover version using the Korg M01 on the DSi

I've never been able to suss this out but the end credits music to Mario Kart 64 strikes a chord with me and makes me well up with a lump in my throat.

I was talking to Jay about this when I was organising the Music Quiz, I'd done several of those tracks over the last couple of weeks, before this forum was up and couldn't believe it when two of the videos up here matched two of the questions on round one of the quiz. I guess that's the problem when you intentionally pick music you love for the quiz.
For the record those two were:
Metal Gear Solid 4 - Father and Son
Turrican II - Main theme

Mass Effect 3 Leaving Earth. I have many issues with this game but this music and the opening will always stick with me. It captures the scene perfectly, and I swore
Skyrim. I wish they would put this OST on iTunes. First one is Explore Morning, the second is the streets of Whiterun.

Skyrim OST is fantastic. I preordered the 4-disc score from the US, came in a foldout card case signed in gold pen by Jeremy Soule. Lovely.

I should get my hand in my pocket and do that, flicking between YouTube vids of the ost whilst driving isn't too safe!.NokkonWud wrote:Skyrim OST is fantastic. I preordered the 4-disc score from the US, came in a foldout card case signed in gold pen by Jeremy Soule. Lovely.
Re: The videogame music thread - share your favourite tunes
It's spectacular, it really is. You'd think you would be sick of similar tracks over 4 discs over almost 12 months, but nope, it's still brilliant.

When riding to Mexico in RDR Far Away by José González starts playing. One of my favorite gaming moments.
