10 Jun - Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

All I got was a birdhouse for the trouble. I suppose I could go back, replay levels and get more munneez, but I'm not as greedy as Wario and I've got too many other games to play.

Ah sweet. Good game this. I played it for the first time about a year ago and was surprised how it stepped on after The 6 Golden Coins.

How did you play it out of interest, on what system ?

:)

Oh, on the 3DS Virtual Console. The DS Lite was the first handheld system I owned and it was a gift. Got the 3DS as an office perk as well, so I figured I'd go back and get some handheld games from the past that I sadly missed out on (same as I did with the DS' backward compatibility with GBA).

It's an interesting platformer for sure. Still trying to make some sense of it and form a cohesive opinion in my head. :)

What did you play it on and what's your overall outlook on it?

Ah, cool. I didn't know it was on the Backwards compatibility list.

I didn't play it through to completion, so it's hard to give a proper thought-out opinion but my initial first few hours with it, I felt frustrated by it. I didn't find it as free flowing and mobile as 6GC's (which was hardly a great running game either) which was what I was craving. It felt more clumsy and convoluted than what I wanted from a Mario platformer.

It was still good mind and looked like it would turn out to be a good game but I couldn't get past my let down expectations, which I think may have been my own fault.

I have a very good condition boxed copy of the cart, which still holds a proud place in my collection, regardless of my personal experience with it.

I played it first on the original Gameboy for a brief time, then switched to my GameBoy Advance- SP (AGS100) for more comfort and better display.

Fantastic stuff. Happy to report the story and plot still hold up to a repeat playthrough. I'm still undecided as to whether the game would be better without the monsters, as some claim, but it's a great way to experience the game for a second time and concentrate on the other stuff, of which there is quite a lot.

I managed to grab the Platinum trophy on Diablo 3 a couple of months ago; absolute pig by the way, but I creamed the level 70 on all classes, easy! get the experience gem and use it on a lvl 70 weapon, boom, lvl 70 on barb in about 3 hours lol. Also, getting max level on hardcore is not easy, as well as beating Malthael, too. It's even worse when you discover that people use hacks on multiplayer, absolute shame that is :(.

Finishing off this one feels like something momentous. Not just because the game took so long to come out, but because this is the first time I've ever finished a Final Fantasy game. I've tried to many over the years, so it's good to finally have one that I could get on board with and managed to see through to the end. Overall it was a great experience, although I can't deny the game has a whole bunch of problems. None of them stand out as particularly galling though. I could pick apart a lot of it, but none of the issues really bother me that much, and my general feelings are pretty positive. In the end it feels like it's greater than the sum of its parts. It's a great adventure with an enjoyable unusual combat system, some gorgeous visuals and art design, with characters who may be somewhat shallow, are still fun to hang around and interact with.

Jun - The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Switch)

I've finally done it! The credits have rolled on Breath Of The Wild!

Apparently I played for '70 hours or more' according to my Switch. I won't write War & Peaceas there's so much opinion about the game online across the entire spectrum, from all-time classic to massively overrated, that one more essay probably won't add much to the debate. Suffice to say I had a truly wonderful experience with it for the majority of my time with the game. Epic in scope, genius in design, endearing in tone. On the flip side, I also found that it dragged in the final 20 or so hours and began to really suffer from repetition towards the end. Still, a marvel all the same, and one that all should play even if just to experience it and you don't have the patience to see it through to the end game.

Now, onto something short and linear I think! Rez Infinite VR perhaps....

Gears of War 4 Great game solid 8/10
God of War 3 Remastered I'll give this one B( . )( . )bies/10

So I'm a bit of a closet Gears fan but what I never thought after years of looking at it and thinking "not for me" is how much I enjoy playing God of War. Thought I'd give it a blast after seeing the last few GoW4 previews. I've enjoyed it so much I think I did it in 4 days. I'll have to go back to one and two to see why Kratos is so flipping angry. And why he's so flipping mean. And I don't mean badass. I mean... Mean.

Gears is just a romp. It's just big dudes doing big dude things with big guns. The horde mode spliced in at points is actually a lot of fun. I played the Original remaster last year and like the Master Chief Collection. It was riddled with bugs. These ones were funny though. Like NPCs repeatedly walking into a lamppost saying "ow". Not the MCC walk on a stone and bounce of a wall at warp speed just before a check point. Or a gun constantly clacking on the floor when it's meant to just be resting there. But hey, that's 343 for you!

19th June - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Well, what can you say about that? A few minor quibbles around repetition, pacing (probably had a lull 50 hours in and took a break) and a lack of reason to engage in combat after 40 hours or so but so, so much to love. The world, the art direction, the minimal but utterly excellent soundtrack, the build up to the finale, the sense of achievement at learning the systems and exploring Hyrule for yourself, the little moments you suspect many other players might have missed, the sheer joy of just standing still and watching the world alter as a cloud floats past...

Is it the generational leap that Ocarina of Time was? Dunno. Has it got the narrative of Skyward Sword or Wind Waker? Definitely not. Is it better than all of them to play though? Almost definitely.

Can't wait for the DLC already... May even rebuy it on Switch one day and replay it. Buy after 134 hours on it, might take a rest...

Free little lateral puzzle game on mobile by Bart Bonte. 50 one off ideas about how to turn the screen yellow without any guidance. Only takes a commute but give it a go. Nice little distraction.

Right...

So this is what I made of it, in the interest of my never seizing quest to catalog and review all games in my collection in a nice printed book for personal use (which proves to be difficult as I buy more games than I have time to play through).
