Anyone else pick up Steelrising day 1 like me? If so what are your thoughts?

Roughly 6 hours in atm and really enjoying it. The level design feels similar to Bloodborne but the actually gameplay feels more like Dark souls. Every fight you have to be deliberate in your approach. If you agro 2-3 enemies it can mean big trouble.

The first level I was finding really easy and had no trouble and barely died and was thinking the game may be to easy. But the 2nd area I was in really took it up a notch and was far more difficult.

Graphically it’s hit or miss. Some environments and enemies look great but whenever there is a cut scene and there is dialogue the lip synching can be pretty bad and people faces look fairly average in the grand scheme of things. A few bugs here and there but nothing close to game breaking.

Definitely recommend picking up (so far) for any soulsborne fans or developer Spiders fans. Combat is great, great weapon range already 2 areas in. Variety of different builds viable. Not as deep as actually souls games but deep enough. Really liking it!

Hadn't heard of this till your post, and it seems to have had middling reviews but I like the look of it and the setting is cool, and I'll try anything compared to Souls. Thanks for the heads up!

I've been interested in it for a while. I really enjoyed the previous game from the same devs, Greedfall. It was something of a breakthrough moment for them, so seeing where they went from there was exciting. Steelrising looks like it has a cool aesthetic and some interesting ideas to the story. Haven't had the chance to try it out myself yet though, but I haven't heard great stuff about it so far. I'd still like to give it a shot or hear more thoughts on it though.

Ah I didn't realise it was from the Greedfall team. I didn't finish that one but really enjoyed what I played of it.

So I have finished this game twice now and here are some thoughts

The gameplay is awesome, I never got sick of fighting enemies. Which I think in a game like this is absolutely the most important thing. Huge variety of weapons and buffs. It’s not the deepest in customisation but it’s enough to be viable for different builds.

The story didn’t interest me but if your into deep political type stories then this is for you. The dev really went into French politics with a fine tooth comb. I found it a bit dry but if politics or alternate histories interest you then you will enjoy the story.

Graphically is a let down. The character models (except for your character) and very bad and that’s being kind. They honestly look ps3 graphically.

Another let down for me were some of the bugs. If your not a trophy hunter it won’t worry you much but so many quests or locations were bugged so a side quest wouldn’t start or an NPC wouldn’t speak to you about a certain side quest to progress it for no reason. Also no one has the platinum trophy yet worldwide because you need to collect all outfits and it’s bugged at this stage.

Overall enjoyed my experience, great gameplay and a neat story although not my cup of tea. Let downs graphically and some bugs really hurt it.
Overall I would give it 7/10 (Lower at this stage for trophy hunters, maybe once it’s all patched up it will be a more desirable platinum)
