Watched Alien Romulus and I know you will all think I’m out my mind but I adored it. Honestly it’s my favourite Alien film. Honestly I can’t describe how much I enjoyed it. Maybe it’s because I’m not as well versed in horror as you lot as it’s normally a genre I avoid so maybe I’m easily pleased but yeah. I loved everything about it, including the nods to the previous films and it’s my favourite film of the year now

Watched the first episode of The Penguin and it didn't disappoint. I'm a big fan of Matt Reeves' The Batman so this spin-off was always on my radar but it's quite the different beast, feeling more akin to something like The Sopranos. Colin Farrell really shines as Oz Cobb even beneath all that latex but the real stand-out is Cristin Milioti who steals it as Sofia Falcone.

I watched the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie yesterday for the first time and thought it was horrendous. The only thing Mario about it was that some of the characters had the same name as characters from the Mario universe, and at one point the y dressed up in red and green dungarees. I thought it was utterly abysmal.

I'm currently reading The Hobbit and got up to the chapter the first film covers. I know the films are looked down upon but I have to say I really enjoyed it. It really fleshed out those opening chapters and all the characters and it is always nice to see more of Middle Earth.

I love the Hobbit films and genuinely don't understand why anyone who enjoyed the LOTR trilogy wouldn't like them. I think they did a great job at converting the book, look good, loads of cool scenes, I just don't get the hate towards them, it's bizarre.Truk_Kurt wrote: October 14th, 2024, 2:32 pm I'm currently reading The Hobbit and got up to the chapter the first film covers. Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
The cast was fantastic, but the weird mix between the goofier lower stakes tone of the books and an attempt to capture the epic tone of the LOTR trilogy just didn't work for me. Also I thought the action scenes were just less impactful and a little floaty. It doubled down on some of the worst parts of the OG trilogy like Legolas being a superhero who gets more unrealistic actions scenes the more movies he gets and a love triangle where no one has chemistry.Alex79 wrote: October 16th, 2024, 2:32 pm

It's not all bad, but it felt stretched out and some of the production issues definitely came through in the final product.

My favourite supernatural/sci-fi/batshit crazy anime on Netflix at the moment
Dandadan
Fresh animation coupled with a great performances from the voice cast, absolutely worth checking out if shows like FLCL are your bag.

Just finished episode 3 of yakuza. I don’t think it’s very good tbh. I couldn’t tell you what’s going on in the plot, I don’t care about any of the characters, Kiryu doesn’t even seem like the main character, acting isn’t great and other than character names and Kiryus costume, I don’t really see that it chimes into the games much. Don’t think I’m going to bother with the rest of it

I started watching Deadwood after meaning to get round to it for many years. Really liking it so far, watched five episodes of the first season.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
Don't know if anyone has seen or heard of it, but we are now halfway through the third (and most recent) season of FROM.
It's on Sky and Now TV and is the best show I have seen in years. Honestly, watch the first two episodes and if you're not all in then I don't know what to say. It's brilliant.
Don't want to spoil much but it's about a town where people mysteriously end up and can't leave. Strong horror element but it's a mystery show at heart.
10/10.
