So discless One S has leaked! Not sure it’s for me but still, pretty cool.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is now backwards compatible with Xbox One X, which apparently alleviates a lot of the frame rate and freezing issues.

Legit considering buying one of those just for that. Probably won't. But still...

If they do a discless One X we'll probably swap Linda's (my wife) out for one as she's still on a launch One right now and we have zero use for a secondary UHD BlueRay player! ;)

I must admit, I don't really keep up with Xbox news, but whatever happened to that Gears Of War funko pop spin off thing? Wasn't that announced like two years ago (or was it only last E3, I forget?) It's not actually come out or anything yet has it?

Still in soft launch, though I think getting close to global launch soon (friend of mine is working on it).

It’s also not an Xbox game, it’s for mobile.

"...alongside digital versions of Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, and Minecraft".

I feel like they could have done a little better there.

Oh cool OK, that's interesting, I'll actually be able to play it then! I thought it was literally just a GoW game with the big head characters, but looking online it seems more of an arena based multiplayer thing?

It shows how technology has advanced.

Sadly though it's Microsoft trying to kill the used game market and push people into Game Pass and to buy games from the overpriced digital store.

Yeah, that's the good thing about competition, they had to backpedal on all that pretty sharpish after the disastrous 2013 E3 announcement when Sony absolutely dived on the chance to make them the villain and undercut them.

I used to go to this other gaming forum back then and people would say "Oh, I fancy a game of this tonight, anyone on here fancy playing?"
It went without saying that they were talking about the 360 version. A few strangers who had wandered in would ask "Oh, what platform?"
and they'd get "Oh, 360, sorry" like they didn't fully believe there was another choice.

The huge shift after that E3 was astounding. Those 360 forums were suddenly now ps4 forums and you had the diehard microsoft fanboys standing alone in the middle of the playground being mocked for sticking with what they knew and having no games, wondering why life was so cruel.

It'll all go digital eventually, of course, and there are benefits as well as disadvantages, but fair play to the customers for holding back the tide for so long and weathering the whole online pass thing we had a while back.

They've been trying to "just slip the head in" from various different angles for a while now. This is an interesting new tactic.

There were plenty of people in 2013 going "Aw, I liked the sound of that, why'd you all have to spoil it?" so we'll see.

How much do xbox ones go for nowadays? That price sounds suspiciously like they're charging the same for less to me.

I had a quick look on german amazon.

Xbox 360 500GB with Forza Horizon 2 costs EUR 320,00

Xbox One S 1TB with Forza Horizon 4 costs EUR 252,68 (??)

Xbox One X 1TB with Forza Horizon 4 & Forza Motorsport 7 costs EUR 399,00

Xbox One X 1TB with Shadow of the Tomb Raider costs EUR 495,00 (??)

Suffice to say, I don't really understand how pricing works.

hehe, yeah, I looked on amazon uk and came to the same conclusion, so thought I'd best ask. The prices were all over the shop!

I've seen Xbox One S with a game for around £160 odd.

Great video. Somebody should talk me out of buying this €400 brick just for an 11-year old game.

DF even takes the time to dunk on the PS3/Vita versions, the absolute legend.

The XOX is fabulous for this sort of thing, if only there were more titles that were given the treatment. Red Dead Redemption 1 in 4K is spectacular, and FFXIII really is a remaster. Ninja Gaiden Black looks utterly sumptuous as well.

To be super unhelpful, the X is a brilliant machine and if you've got the funds burning whole in your pocket then it's definitely worth the price of entry if optimal performance is something you care about (on console obviously, before PC folk jump in!).

There are hundreds of games with specific support now (https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/xbox-o ... anced-list), plus the console gives a boost in general to most games to varying degrees, eg. if something has an unlocked dynamic resolution it'll generally just max it out the whole time, or where you once saw choppy frame rate the game will now run more smoothly.

I now play all third party stuff on it as X optimisation invariably delivers the best version available on console.

Pretty great bit of kit all round really...

I hear you, the X is certainly a very impressive piece of tech. My main issue is that I can't justify buying one only for the tiny amount of exclusives that would interest me, especially considering my 360 is still in perfect health.

Halo would have been a selling point a few years ago, but I feel like my only multiplayer days are behind me, and 343's approach to the singleplayer campaign side of things doesn't really appeal to me. I watched 5's cutscenes on YT and didn't feel like I was missing all that much by not playing it. Same can be said to a lesser degree for Gears.

Cuphead looks dope, but that was ported to Switch.

I have zero interest in Forza or most of the other Xbox exclusives I can think of off the top of my head. Fable is a franchise I have a good degree of affection for, but the rumors of yet another open world reboot are yawn-inducing more than anything.

My PS4 can handle Blu-Rays and the majority of multi-platform titles without any major drawbacks that I can tell.

So really, it all comes down to NGB and NG2 and I just can't justify that price point and taking away precious TV real estate (it's a real issue, all right! :P ) in order to be able to play better versions of two games I already own.

I'm probably the only one, but I'm really tempted by the discless XB1. That and gamepass would suit me fine, and I have a ton of digital games left over from my 360 I could play too. It's just too expensive, I guess, given the version with the disc drive is cheaper. I'd definitely think about grabbing one for around £140 though.

Ha! Well yeah if you’d only play 2 games on then definitely don’t get one
