EA closes Maxis.

MS maybe closing Lift London.

Phil Harrison might be leaving MS.
I hadn't heard about Maxis, that is sad.

This. Looks. BRILLIANT!!

Ah man I hope they port to console. This would be amazing on Vita. Or even just PS3 would do!

Nintendo announced Codename NX.

"Nintendo, together with DeNA, will jointly develop a new membership service, which encompasses the existing Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, the new hardware with a brand new concept NX, smart devices and PCs."

I am confused!

I imagine this hardware is probably related to their "quality of life" stuff they said they were doing. The mobile stuff, I guess that'll just be straightforward games. Designed specifically for mobile though, as they've mentioned. Not too sure what to think of that though. I trust Nintendo could easily make great games perfectly suited to the platform, but they could also just do more like Pokemon Shuffle.

It will be intresting to see what Nintendo will do with smart phone gaming. I remember in the late 90's I thought that if Nintendo released a Gameboy/DS branded phone they would make a killing. they might have missed the boat with that but this could be the next best thing.

Eh I don't think a Game Boy/DS phone would be a success. Maybe it could grab a niche audience in Japan or something, but I don't think the brand is really suited to phones. Those consoles are thought of kind of like toys rather than a flashy piece of technology. When people want a phone, especially in more recent times, they want something slick and advanced. Not a spin-off from a toy line. I imagine a GB/DS phone would end up being something like a reverse Nokia N-Gage.

Bakers did specify in the late 90s that might have worked (or presumably in the mid 00s when the DS was massive), not in 2015.

Yeah, I mean it wouldn't work back then either. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo could make it work better now in 2015. Probably still wouldn't work very well, but I don't think the 3DS brand has as much of the image of a toy around it as the Game Boy or original DS.

Possibly not huge news for most people, but PlayStation Mobile will cease to be in a few months.
PlayStation Mobile will cease to distribute content after 15 July 2015

PlayStation Mobile will stop distributing content after 15 July 2015. After 10 September 2015 you’ll no longer be able to make in-app purchases or re-download PlayStation Mobile content you’ve already purchased. The “PlayStation Mobile for Android” application will also no longer be available for download after 10 September 2015.

Don’t worry, you can keep playing all the PlayStation Mobile content you’ve bought already – you just need to activate your devices by 10 September 2015.

Here’s how to activate your devices and keep playing your purchased content:

Between 10 April 2015 and 10 September 2015, simply start up your PSM content on the devices you want to keep playing on, and make sure your device is connected to the network.

Activation takes place automatically, and up to three compatible devices can be activated.

Please remember that if you deactivate your device again after 10 September 2015 you won’t be able to play your PSM content again.

If you want to keep playing on PlayStation®Vita, you can also activate your device by performing the steps below between 10 March 2015 and 10 September 2015:

- [Settings] > [PSNSM] > [System Activation] > [PlayStation Mobile] > [Activate]

Got a question or need more support? Head over to the PlayStation Mobile support pages.

Thank you to everyone who played with PlayStation Mobile, and we hope you continue to enjoy all your purchased content.
PlayStation Mobile is 99% absolute shit, but there are a few gems on there if you look hard. But anyway, just make sure you 're-download anything you might want to keep before the deadline if you don't have it saved already.

My thinking at the time bearing in mind I was a teenagers then was the likes of things like snake (I know that there was no choice of other games) had proved that mobile gaming was viable. When games became available to download it was a real minefield if the game would work on your phone properly or not and took a long time to download. So a phone with a cart slot to play games would counter them problems, though obviously now that would be a very stilly thing to do as the technology has moved on. Nintendo being the company with the most success in the hand head market at the time and their IPs made think that they would make the best product even if it was a joint venture with another company to make a handheld/phone hybrid.

It's been a long time coming, I think. Every MGS game has seen Kojima talk about being his last game.

Still, playing an MGS game without Kojima Productions behind the wheel is the most off putting thought but I could be proven wrong.

I'd be far more interested in seeing the next Kojima game than the next Metal Gear, that's for certain.

I think this can be a good thing if Kojima doesnt simply decide to retire after this but man how do the suits at Konami dare to take his name out the box it's beyond disrespectfull I sure hope they dont get any funny ideas of trying to continue the series without because if they do they are gonna fail hard.

A lot of how you take this one comes from how much you believe in the 'one man, one vision' school of game design. Is Kojima *really* the only person that has the ideas on those games, or is he just the guy who stands front and centre to take all the credit? The reality is going to be somewhere in the middle. When it takes hundreds of people to make a game it's impossible for one person to make every single decision...

There'll be plenty of very talented people at Konami who are quite capable of making good games. Maybe now they'll get their place in the sun too.
