Does anyone happen to know if the music in the Master Chief Collection is all unchanged? I certainly hope so.
You get the original soundtrack (although I think it's remastered slightly) when you have the original graphics mode, and a new remixed/remastered soundtrack with the remastered graphics. They don't change it too much though. It's mostly the same but better, with the only different songs being the full-on rock tracks. They're replaced with something similar, but in my opinion much better.

Talking of the new Splatfest music though, I've found myself really liking the new "One Minute Left" theme. I especially like the vocal bit about halfway through.

Great news! Thanks.

I must get tucked into the MCC now that it has (presumably) been patched up to a working state. :)

Dissidia isn't a great game series, and for the most part the music in it is pretty weak arrangements of other Final Fantasy tunes.

Then it goes and throws this at you at the end...

(It's two tracks really, but one goes into the other so it's best listened to this way)

Too long for a sound of play recommendation really, but it needs more love.

Heartfelt Submission

Post by RaymondotronWoW »

For a while now I've wondered what I wanted to submit for Sound of Play. I wanted something from the Sonic the Hedgehog series as it is not only my favourite but most nostalgic and has some of the best music in all of gaming within its grasp. However, the lat episode of Sound of Play contained a request for the main theme of To the Moon/For River alt. and it reminded me of that game's amazing soundtrack. I reminisced about how it complimented every part of the game. Then it struck me: Everything's Alright, the only vocal track in the whole game! I've never cried before or since at any moment in any story whether it be film, game or book. But something about how Johnny was to relive his life without ever meeting River just to achieve his dream was heartbreaking and I was so torn up. This beautiful track reminds me if that moment every time I hear it and it is something that will stay with me forever! :)

Lovely stuff.

I put a little piece together about the works of Laura Shigihara (obviously that's not her there in that video as it's a cover but she sings on the original of course) a while ago, which she kindly thanked us for publishing:

This is one that takes me back to my childhood. I will always remember seeing this for the first time without really understanding the humour behind the Discworld mythos but it really did amuse me at the time. It's just a perfect encapsulation of the backwards, often downright silly nature of Terry Pratchett's much beloved universe, and it helps affirm that the player is in for a truly whacky experience. It will always have a place in my heart. This is the track That's Death from Discworld 2, performed by Eric Idle.

I'd like to submit a track from my earlier gaming years, its the music from the first stage of Konami's Pop and Twinbee for the SNES, village sky. Not having a SNES at the time meant I spent hours and hours at my cousins house playing this and I loved every second! I remember being amazed by the graphics and gameplay but what really stuck with me was the music, here it is:

In honour of this weekends EVO championship, one piece of music from each of the 9 featured main stage games.

Character Select: Ultra Street Fighter 4

Theme of Iron Fist: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

Village of Whispers (Hisako's Theme) : Killer Instinct

Ryu Stage : Smash Brothers WiiU (it seems somehow appropriate)

Twinkle Star (Rise Kujikawa's Theme) : Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Krossroads : Mortal Kombat X

Metal Battle : Super Smash Brothers Melee

Marionette (Elphelt's Theme) : Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign

Devil's Pit : Tekken 7

The Halo 3 soundtrack is outstanding. Not, for me anyway, the peak of the series (that's still to come...) but there are so many 'raising the hair on the back of the neck' moments in the score that picking a couple for this thread is kinda hard...

The podcast already played the best piece of music in the game (for me anyway) so here's some others:

Greatest Journey
The suite for the final part of the game, touches on several of the main themes of the series and it includes the best version of the main 'Halo' theme up to this point in time...

Finish the Fight
Basically the games main theme, though not used in this form at all in the game itself (look up the track 'This is the Hour' for the version from the game). Linked here is the trailer from E3. I like this version as it has the Cortana voice over thats not on the soundtrack CD.

for me, i would like to add this soundtrack from the game "Outlaws".

i played the game's demo initially, and at the time i didnt know that developers would put a limit in the demo through having the boss have unlimited health. i kept trying and trying, and when i played the full game i realized how stupid i was :)

the game featured cartoon graphics, but i dont know why, i always enjoyed them and it was one of the first games that i played through fully without any help. the music always gets me back to that nostalgic feeling :) i hope you guys enjoy it as well. there are many tunes from the OST, but this one is a good start.

Rare Replay has reminded me just how great the score for Jet Force Gemini is. There's stuff in there like the SS Anubis theme that sounds like it would be more at home in a Mass Effect game or an Aliens movie, the composers at Rare really knew how to push the N64 sonically.

Jet Force Gemini hit around the same time I was on my first ever actual crunch as a video game developer, so it got played late at night as a wind down before going to sleep.

I'd like to request the character select theme (I think it's a Robin Beanland piece). It's possibly the most dramatic character select theme ever to appear in a video game. I love the heavy drum track and military march aspects to it, it's just so dark for a game that seems on the surface to be quite light and silly.

I want to submit a song from the 3ds title bravely default. A game which i understand sold quite well but still dont get the talk and praise it deserves. Even though its not called final fantasy it feels more like a final fantasy than any of the main titles in the past 10-15 years. The soundtrack is incredible and narrowing it down to one song really took some time but ive settled on The Civil War Country which is composed (from what i can tell) by a man known as Revo. That is all i got from a quick look on wikipedia at least. Hope you like it.

Huge fan of the podcast. Made this account to suggest this song.

I've been a fan of the WarioWare series from the beginning, and though it's definitely most known for it's visuals and wacky design, I think the music is often overlooked in the series. The track that resonates with me is Body Rock from WarioWare DIY. Jimmy T dons his aerobic exercise outfit and works out while you go through his microgames, but it feels like you're working out with him. The cheesy lyrics as well as the scratchy sound of the speakers on the DS would give off the impression of an actual old-school 80's VHS exercise tape being popped into the VCR in my childhood days.

Although I prefer the song once it's a little sped up, I found that hard to find. I'm posting a version where the song is repeated for 5 minutes while speeding up to give you an idea of how much I love it near the end of the video, but for simplicity's sake I'm also posting the standard single loop slow version.

I would love to hear you guys talk about Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Here is my submission. Just hearing that opening first few seconds immediately takes me back to the games opening sequence and all the feels that come with it.

Phantasy star online. The whole new world. An overused word but just epic. When I started up phantasy star online for the first time and connected to the world wde web to meet and play with people from around the world it was just amazing, and the opening really summed this up

Yakuza 3. End point. Great punchy and to the point. the Yakuza games have great music and I am really looking forward to 5. Cane and rinse at some point?

Sonic 1 & 2. Star light zone & Casino night zone. Played through Sonic 1 and 2 countless times as they were two of the few games I had for my Mega Drive. These songs are ingrained into my childhood and have stood the test of time. iconic.

Jet set radio Sweet soul brother. Funky fresh.

Metroid Prime. Phendrana drifts. Atmospheric with a sense of desperate isolation but also really suited to the snowy phendrana plains level.
