What did you think of Rocketbirds? I got it on PS Plus and wasn't sure if I should give it a shot.

Loved it. I expected it to be crap(dont know why, i had no basis for this assumption, the name probably), but i thought it was bloody great. So good, i completed it in a few sittings. It has a solid, tight 2-D cover shooting mechanic, the story is full of satire & humour. Also the soundtrack really suited the story flow(if you could call it that). Give it a go, i thought it was a cracking little game.

Had a hankering for some Binding Of Isaac, and I'm really glad I opted to jump ship from PS4 to PC. Afterbirth adds an incredible amount of extra bits and bobs, including new Challenges and Daily Challenges. Starting from scratch seems a bit limiting, what with all the missing items, but I soon started unlocking new stuff again. Having an absolute blast all over again!

25/02 - Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2: Revelations (Prince of Darkness)
27/02 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
02/03 - Portal: Still Alive

Been meaning to go back to this one for a long time. Finally did. Honestly I don't think the game it too well suited to going through a second time. While it's still very good, I found it a little frustrating at a few points as I couldn't remember a solution that I knew I had already worked out before, or because it drags a bit since the game is designed as one big tutorial. Spends too long on concepts that I do remember how to do. There are also a couple of moments near the end which I felt like aren't really anywhere near as well designed as the rest of the game. Not huge things, but just a few moments where it strays really far away from its usually very well made teaching methods.

The game also runs pretty badly on the Xbox One. Made a few spots a bit more clunky than they should have been. Frame rate chugs quite a lot for no good reason.

Mar - Halo 3: ODST

Couldn't stop myself from going back to the collection after getting 5 this week and this game is still brilliant. Still love the music, the animation and the tone. Really feels like halo meets akira in an odd way and I love it.

Mar - Firewatch

Interesting and loveable but a little underdeveloped in my eyes, constant hints of greatness though so I'm willing to put a recommendation on it.

Mar - Street Fighter V

It's probably worth saying I've got the most out of the single player side and done the first of many online challenges, until the bigger stuff arrives this June I'm satisfied to say I've completed it as it stands.

I don't really have a great deal to say about this, it was 'okay'. The gameplay was quite interesting but never really got challenging at all, although it was quite nice playing on Vita being able to draw the terrain effects on with your finger, but overall the game was just a bit dull, really. The story wasn't half as clever as it was trying to be, and the game just felt like it was a bit too much of an indie try-hard, which ultimately left me feeling a bit apathetic towards it. Worth a play through if you got it free on PS+, but nothing special really.

Jan - Broken Age (Vita)
Jan - Thomas Was Alone (Vita)
Feb - Until Dawn (PS4)
Feb - NIGHTS Into Dreams (Saturn via X360 via XBO)

Mar - Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Remastered (PS4)

With the release of Uncharted 4 nearly upon us I decided it was time I got around to playing the third numbered entry in the series. I started the game on PS3 around its original release but for reasons long forgotten I never saw it through, and went from scratch with the remastered version on PS4 this time around.

It seems to be the majority opinion that this is a weaker entry in the series than no.2, but for me personally it actually comes out top thanks to a rip roaring, globe trotting plot and some series-best banter between the ever-likeable characters.

It doesn't solve any of the past game's issues (occasionally stodgy controls, a glut of identikit weapons, overly simplistic puzzles etc), but it was still one hell of a ride that had me grinning like a Cheshire Cat throughout.

Roll on A Thief's End!

I've been playing a lot of Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter X Tekken and SFIV lately, and I had a sudden urge to go right back to the World Warrior, so I downloaded the PSP Capcom collection to my Vita. I bought it in a sale ages ago and never really played much of it until this evening.

I sat playing it whilst watching TV, and it holds up pretty well. It's slow as hell (like really, so so slow!), but still very enjoyable. There's something quite nostalgic about seeing that character selection screen with only eight faces looking back at you too. I beat the game with Ryu, then Ken, then Guile. At that point I thought I might as well keep playing and clear it with all eight players and chalk it up on the forum as a completion, so that's what I did! Had a lot of fun with it, too!

I've now finally finished all of the NES Mario games! I thought this one was pretty fun, especially considering it wasn't originally a Mario game. There were some really creative mechanics in it and it had a fun sense of humor. Like most NES games, I think it gets too difficult in the end, but overall I had a good time with Mario 2.

02/03 - Portal: Still Alive
08/03 - The Darkness II

I've been meaning to go back to this game for a very long time, since my last playthrough of the original. Finally got around to it. My impressions haven't much changed since then, although I suppose I feel less strongly about the game than I did before, probably based on nothing more than seeing the game through multiple times, and not being as excited as I was when it first came out.

Generally, I like it, but I prefer the first much more. They improved the gameplay mechanics over the first game, by fleshing out some of your powers more, but I have to say playing through this time they didn't seem as expansive as I remember. Gunplay is better than the first game too, but I did find the narrow FoV and reliance on ADS more of a pain than I did originally, and I've never liked that anyway.

But it still can't touch the atmosphere or story of the first game. The aesthetic isn't as good either, although it's still pretty good by its own merit. I don't really like the tone of this game compared to the first either. It feels too goofy and removed from reality. The antagonist felt like kind of a cartoon character, and having you go up against an occult group, and the greater focus on that kind of stuff in general took away from the sense of mystery that added something special to the first game. Like in the original, there were heavy elements of cosmic horror, where you were the monster. In the second everyone has some kind of cartoonish evil magic, and it explains away the mystery somewhat. There's a couple of other things I don't like about the story compared to the first too, but it all comes to a similar point. It's not bad. Somewhat enjoyable. But nowhere near as good as the first.

My god that was fucking brilliant. My favourite Telltale series so far. Will save comments for the podcast thread, but I enjoyed it from start to finished. Absolutely perfectly paced, brilliant character progression and utterly compelling story. Almost perfection, save for a few technical issues. My favourite game I've completed so far this year.

Super Mario Bros on the 3DS. Anyone who completed this on the original SNES release without save scumming gets a huge amount of respect from me. The ending is so brutal I question whether its QA team actually bothered to play this thing.

I just beat the original Metal Gear for the MSX2 (played it on my Vita via the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection). My goal is to play through the whole series over the next couple months. I found the game SUPER impressive in the early goings. There are so many items and so much complexity to master. I thought Kojima did a remarkable job recreating 80s action movies in an 8-bit game. Like most 8-bit games though, there's a point in the second half where it becomes too difficult to complete without a walkthrough and I thought some elements were a little mean-spirited (especially the pitfalls and the trucks that will take you back to previous buildings). I'm still glad that I started with this instead of Metal Gear Solid though and I'm excited to listen along to the podcasts as I go.
