They'll do something with Splatoon for the launch of the NX.

I'd put money on it.

Possibly even ahead of a dedicated Mario game.

I still find the rumors that Mario Maker and Splatoon will both be day one ports for the NX to be highly plausible.

Just thinking out loud.
Personally, I think the Wii U has far-and-away the best library of exclusives of any of the three consoles, though that will change since the PS4 and X1 will be supported longer than the Wii U has. The only place the Wii U has failed, as far as I'm concerned, is in sales.

Not sure how the second screen stuff would translate across for Splatoon. The map isn't that vital, you could have that on the main screen, but being able to leap to the position of any teammate is important to the games tactics so they'd need to adapt that to a single screen somehow. Not impossible though.

I think Nintendo themselves were a little surprised at how well Splatoon did, especially in Europe where it was a bigger thing than it was in the US.

I could see them doing it by having the map being a toggable transluscent overlay which can be interacted with. That would actually probably work better than how the Wii U does it since the player wouldn't have to snap focus between two different screens to do it. It would all depend on how seamlessly they can make the map overlay appear over the screen.

I can't see any future Nintendo console getting any better 3rd party support than the Wii-U did really. I think they've got a huge hill to climb. Commercially they'll never have it as good as they did with the original Wii, will they. With each innovative iteration of their home consoles they're losing part of the huge casual gaming market they once had, and I can't see them getting it back.

(That's a HUGE list BTW. Bet Sony are at about 5!)

I think you could be right. And as someone who loved the Wii U, I wonder what they could do to Mario Kart and 2D Mario to make me want to go in again.

But then I also believe they've invested in their internal team, mode or less bought a few people like Monolith Soft, have lasting links to Sega and Capcom via 3DS, strengthened relationships with Indies and in a few months time, may only be developing for once machine.

Third parties go where the cash is, so if its not far off XboxOne levels or selling a ton, they'll develop for it. In fact if its easier and cheaper to develop for than Ps4 Pro, maybetheyll prioritise it? But I agree. I do wonder how many will be keen.

Nintendo don't really do gritty, epic single player games either outside of Zelda (and Metroid every decade) so I've had plenty of months where I've been very jealous of those people playing Bloodborne and The Witcher 3. Be good to see them try to do this again or partner with someone who will.

And I think Splatwoon will be a launch game for Wii U.

Looks like Tesco created a Nintendo NX page and listed the price at £350.

Then promptly took the price off the page.

Story/report here...

If I was to ever buy another Nintendo console it would definitely be as a secondary console, and if that price is anything other than a wild guess it's going to be a bit too far outside the 'take a punt' zone for me - and I'm guessing a lot of other people.

Clicked this thread as it was at the top, excitedly thinking "there's NX news! there's NX news!"

Then read your post chase

...then also remembered I've got a little one on the way now, and my chances of sneaking aside £350 or whatever it will be to get an NX when it lands are slim to nil. Swings and roundabouts.

Ah, congratulations dude, wonderful news.

Is anyone else surprised at the quality of the emulation that the NES Classic Mini is putting out compared to the Wii U Virtual Console ?!?

I expected it to be better but it's a huge difference. The sound is vastly improved also.

I'll more than likely choose pixel perfect mode for all my games, after falling in love with that state on the N3DS SNES VC.

Word is that they're become hard to get hold off now and some places aren't making any promises for Christmas. I got mine from Nintendo as soon as it was available, with an extra pad and that free 8-bit Mario plushy.

I too have a lot of love for my Wii U. I was one, of probably many, who dismissed it at first, but after buying one (the release of Earthbound of all things tipped me over) it just "clicked", and I understood what Nintendo were going for. I do own a PS4 as well, which was my choice for this generation of consoles (the Xbone is just not doing it for me), so between that and the Wii U there's a good variety of gaming experiences, perhaps with the Wii U being more unique because of that second screen.

And while it's sad to see it go, it will ascend to the heaven of retro gaming, to be appreciated perhaps more after commercial death. I still buy older games (there's a lot to catch up with), and I own most of the small catalogue anyway (trying my best to support you Ninty).

I didn't get in early enough with the NES classic. Though I get a sneaking suspicion that they will be appearing on eBay at inflated prices...

NES Minis are already sold out? I didn't even know they were on sale yet... Oh well, I was already having second thoughts about getting one for my brother for Christmas after I found out how short the controller cords are.

In Australia they are definitely sold out from retailers, some within 24 hours. Can't really speak for other regions... maybe do a search to be sure?

The Japanese version, the mini Famicom, looks pretty fantastic too.

[...And a quick search on eBay shows the NES Classic, retailing at $99.95 AUD, already being offered (as a preorder) for $200 AUD or $400 AUD with two controllers]

The mini Famicom looks ace, but because of them copying the design so religiously it means the controllers are wired and slot into the system. This would be cool except to fit into a minature system they have to be tiiiiny. My hands cramp just looking at photos of the thing.

Yeah, I was mystified as to why the controller cables were so short too, then I learnt that the reset button on the system is the home button, that takes you back to the game select menu.

Due to this facility perhaps it's designed with being close to the player in mind and that the HDMI will be the longer cable trailing across the room and not the pad.

NVC spoke about it a bit and mentioned that maybe Nintendo didn't want to redesign the classic pad to include a new 'Home' button, which is highly likely.

Although honestly I don't know, as all of the native Nintendo control pad wires are short for some reason, so maybe it's just some Nintendo didn't think of when designing it.

That was my thought as well, but the prospect of keeping a still-largish console one or two feet away from me when I'm playing is still not pleasing. I'd need to clear a specific space around my play area to set the console on and then have it anchored with a long, expensive HDMI cable which has to be positioned and maneuvered around (I'm thinking with my setup, where I would need at least a twelve-foot cable for it to be comfortable). You could say that it's the same as having a controller wire in the way, but it's really not. It's a bad design choice, seems to have been made more for aesthetic reasons than practical ones.
