Sound of Play: 90

Post by JaySevenZero »

Here's the latest episode of our weekly podcast dedicated to videogame music – Sound of Play

What we aim to bring you with this Sound of Play special is a diverse sample of some of our favourite pieces from the many air-punching, spine-tingling, tear-jerking and grin-inducing videogame soundtracks we heard in the year of 1990. However, it’s not always just about what we like, so if you venture over to our forum at you can put forward your favourites and we’ll include a selection in the playlist for each show.

In this Sound of Play special Leon Cox is joined by Karl Moon and Michiel Kroder, with a community contribution from Glen ‘Mr Flabyo’ Watts in picking their favourite tracks from videogames from the year 1990

1990 was a fun year for gaming, you've got some outstanding stuff hitting at the tail end of the 8-bit era whilst at the same time the 16-bit machines were starting to find their feet and putting out their first truly great titles.

(Oh, and it's Glen. With one n :) )

What an amazing eclectic mix of tracks from 1990. I was in bleepy bloopy heaven.
A highlight for me was rainbow islands. Oh the hours I wasted jumping on those fiendishly difficult to master rainbows.

Can't wait for the puzznic episode ;)

Great episode! Some really fond memories for me, particularly Thunderforce III. I remember 'converting' my Mega Drive with a compass so I could play my first Japanese import.
Really enjoying these longer specials. Appreciate the extra effort.
