It's light-hearted and is a nice change of pace when compared to C&R but ultimately David Turner's style just isn't for me. I'm looking for something similar.

Edit: I changed my first post because I was unnecessarily mean, the irony of which isn't lost on me.
I really like the IGN UK podcast, some good people on that, including Gav Murphy and Joe Skrebels ex Official Nintendo Magazine writers. I also listen to the Official Playstation Magazine podcast, and Podcast Beyond which is a PS focused podcast from the US IGN team.

Oh and it's not video game related, but I'd always recommend Adam Buxton's podcast.

Hmm, a tough question for me because I generally prefer TCGS to any podcast of that style (chatty, what you been playing). If you're happy listening to older episodes once it ends, then I'd certainly second (third) Midnight Resistance.

In terms of where else to look, there's an 'Other Podcast Recommendations' thread, though I don't know how much use it'll be if you're looking for a specific style of podcast.

From my own podcast app, I'd heartily recommend trying:
Bit Socket (games, bits, Scots)
Chat Very Good (nerd culture, Sam White shaming)
DLC (games, Jeff Cannata, Christian Spicer)
Gamers With Jobs (games, jobs)
Idle Thumbs (games, thumbs, thoughts)
The Jim And Burns (And Dave) Podcast (games, Jim, Burns and Dave)
Waypoint Radio/Waypoint Radio UK (games, vices)
Un-Loading (games, food, drinks, wrestling)

There's a lot there, but I figure your best bet is to try an episode or two from any podcast that sounds interesting and see how it grabs you. :)

ThirdMan wrote: May 1st, 2017, 1:44 pm I also really like TCGS but I just cannot listen to it anymore. I'm not trying to piss anyone off by saying that because from what I can gather a lot of you are friends, etc. I just cannot tolerate bullies/alpha males. It was funny at the start because it felt like comedy routine but eventually I found that other, more interesting, people were being browbeaten into silence. I can get that kinda thing down the kebab shop, I don't need to listen to it on my way to work.

Anyway, thanks again.
No need to explain, I understand entirely what you mean. I'm not sure if David, Michael or James would appreciate the comparison, but, since the Joypod days, I've always seen a Ricky Gervais/Karl Pilkington dynamic between David and one of his co-hosts (formerly Michael, now James). That's not going to be entertaining or even acceptable to everyone, and I hope I (or anyone else) wouldn't ever try to convince you that that isn't okay.

For what it's worth, when I first listened to GFW Radio and 1Up Yours podcasts, back in the 2007-2009 era of 1Up.com, I had a difficult time dealing with Shane Bettenhausen and Shawn Elliott's antagonistic, forthright styles. I ended up enjoying those podcasts, but I do have an inkling of what you mean about TCGS.

Ultimately, if I'm going to spend 2 hours a week listening to a podcast, I'm going to make it one I enjoy, with as few reservations as possible. I've certainly dropped more than a few podcasts because the hosts' style wasn't for me, and I dare say a few people have dropped Cane And Rinse for much the same reason. :)

Re: the bullying and alpha male stuff on TCGS, that really is for comedic effect, I'm sure. And to be fair, James does come out with some complete nonsense haha.

Several sites have reported on a rumour that the next Far Cry game will be set in the wild west. Oh my gosh I hope it's true!

Vanquish confirmed for PC then. I know that'll make a lot of people very happy, but I really need to give that game another try. Totally bounced off it when it was free on PS+ a few years back.

Good news for gamers. More games need to be available on more platforms and if this keeps lining Sega's pocket then we're closer to Super Monkey Ball appearing in HD!

EVERYBODY* PLAY THIS

Let Challenge 6 consume your very existence, know my anguish and suffering!

*"EVERYBODY" = Those of you who can forgive low-rent level design, bland aesthetics and a garbage story for the sake of mechanical nirvana with an insanely high skill ceiling.

Bit of 'we didn't make enough money so so long and thanks' news today:

Rumours that EA have downsized their Montreal studio, put Mass Effect series into hibernation.

Square Enix decides to sell IO, unlikely we'll see any more Hitman any time soon.

(Also apparently they decided they were done with Deus Ex as well recently? I must've missed that)

Whenever art and business collide, the former is unlikely to come out on top.

Wow...this is why we cant have nice things. IO does the best Hitman game to date and their reward is getting sold out and possibly closed, the worst part is that if the game didnt perform that well it wasnt IO's fault it was bloody Square Enix that made them release it in an episodic format! Same thing with Deus Ex that they intented to carve into 3 smaller games and then rushed Mankind Divided out the door. I also assume that even if IO does find a buyer the Hitman IP is staying with Square Enix so kiss that franchise goodbye, until of course Square decides to farm out to a third rate developer and ship absolution 2 or some other out of touch bullshit. At least the Deus Ex devs can look foward to making Marvel games for the rest of their lifes while the folks at IO have to hope somebody picks them up or they're gonna be left in the street, it's so unfair.

As someone who loved Hitman: Blood Money, and got a great deal of joy out of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the way Square Enix dealt with recent releases left a pretty bitter taste. Mind you, I'm pretty cynical person by default, so full disclosure.

As consumers, all we can do is vote with our money, so the expectations that Square Enix had for both series clearly didn't line up with reality. 'Tis the way of the industry I'm afraid.

Hopefully this setback is just that, and that the talent of IO rise above it.

I guess the even more disappointing thing about it is in the rest of their financial statement they've turned a decent profit, sales of FFXV mean they're doing pretty well right now.

The more I think about this, the more I think it's them needing to direct money towards the multi game deal they have with Marvel. It's a safer bet perhaps.

It seems like an announcement of Shenmue 1+2 HD is imminent. I'm sure Leon will be pleased about that, having listened to his deep enthusiasm for the games he expresses on the Shenmue show.

It'll be interesting to see how they review, that's for sure.

Fascinating games, incredibly ambitious, but I found them virtually no fun to play now, sadly.

I'm always happy to see classics re-released though, even if I don't want to play them myself - it's important for the history of the medium.

I think it would make a lot of sense to at least re-release the two Shenmue games if they're serious about continuing the series with 3 as a direct sequel to 2. Not many people appreciate forced lateral entries into established story-heavy franchises.
