Interesting about the Waypoint podcast, I've not given that a listen yet. That's Patrick Klepack and Austin Walker (amongst others) isn't it ??

I had to sack in the Gamespot podcast, as it's had more of a visual focus recently and in audio mode it's incredible infuriating having to listen to people's non descriptive noises and laughs over things I can't see. Shame as I used to enjoy that, even after Danny left.

Also, worth noting that Jose Otero has left NVC but for Nintendo . I loved Jose, the professional approach he brought and the open discussions he encouraged. His final podcast was yesterday, which I've not listened to yet and I'm hoping he gives some sort of insight into what role he'll be taking up at Nintendo.

For those that like their football, I highly recommend The Football Ramble - it strikes just the right balance of silly and serious chat - the guys aren't above talking absolute frontier gibberish (particularly Pete), but on the same note, there's actually some genuinely sensible and interesting back and forth chat as well.

Good Job, Brain! is another one that I enjoy - sadly a pretty infrequent one these days, but there's a good backlog of about 200 episodes, and it's an enjoyable 'pub quiz' style podcast.

Gamers with Jobs

It IS a podcast of the moment though. C&R and Sound of Play are both like growing archives, which means you can conveniently tune in any time and the old episodes are just as relevant today as they were when recorded. GWJ Is more like a lot of others I've heard which is just some people reacting at this moment in time, and old episodes feel old. Just grab it weekly and you'll be fine, no need to "catch up."

I can't believe that Bonfireside Chat and Midnight Resistance are both gone within the space of a month. I put off both finales because I didn't want them to end but I've now finished both and feel a bit emotional, particularly about BSC, because the Souls games mean so much to me and Gary and Kole brought out so much of what I really love about them. If there is a Bloodborne 2, one of the strangest things will be not having an accompanying series of BSC. It won't be the same.

Recently discovered The Comedians Comedian. It's brilliant, massive archive of episodes where the host interviews most of my favorite comedians. Stewart Lee, Dave Gorman, Adam Buxton, Simon Munnery, Norman Lovett.... loads!

I've now got a 2.5 hour round trip commute to work every day so getting a lot of podcasts in I've been meaning to catch up on. Just finished S-town. I really enjoyed it, but the whole time I listened thought it was a work of fiction. It was only after looking into it I discovered it was a true story!

Interesting, I've not heard of it... will check it out. I also spend 2.5 - 3 hours a day commuting these days, some of my other favourite podcasts are:

The Unresolved Podcast (unresolved murder cases... some very interesting ones here, particularly the first 3 on EAR/ONS)
Generation Why (A different topic each week, generally around murders and mysteries)
Sword And Scale (particularly the first 25 or so, it loses it's appeal after those I think)
Criminology (Fairly new, all about the Zodiac Killer so far)
Unfiltered with James O'Brien (This is brand new and definitely worth checking out, different guest each week, had Russell Brand, Alistair McGowan, and Robert Webb from Peep Show on so far)

The Anfield Index (Only for Liverpool fans, which may not be many people I guess!)

Slightly controversial but I think TCGS benefits from a fourth host/co-host, who's slightly distanced from the other three, brings out the best in everyone because it can be a little bit negative otherwise, ragging on each other's weaknesses. They'll never see this so just wanted to get it off my chest.

Yeah, I absolutely love that show, and it really pains me to say the bickering is getting a little tedious. The arguments go on for far too long across weeks and weeks sometimes.

I've only just started listening to it, starting with some back issues to get a feel before skipping ahead to the current episodes. It's enjoyable but I can't see it working without the full four based on what I've heard. Maybe they'll get someone else in to balance it out again?

They have semi-regular guests in as you'll no doubt discover. I absolutely love it, my other main podcast highlight of the week, I just wanted to see if it was just me. That said, the second half this week was much more enjoyable once they got into the games, more shared enjoyment and camaraderie rather than anything mean-spirited. Bloody hell, I sound like a right prude, and I'm sure they wouldn't be arsed either way. I don't like hearing Mat get ripped into, basically, he's such a warm, enthusiastic guy.

I’ve honestly stopped listen at some points in those bickering tirades and just not gone back to that episode. Some of the pre-E3 arguments spring to mind.

When David is purposely confrontational for the bebifit of the discussion (this weeks issue with loot boxes for instance, asking what James’ issue with the whole thing was) I find it productive. Cutting off James mid flow for the lulz is personally frustrating, or anyone on the team did that matter.

I like the banter to a degree but too much is annoying as I genuinely enjoy listening to their personal opinions and focussed discussions.

I'd say Dark Calls is the best thing I've heard from Dave, though I do love TCGS most weeks. The dynamic worked perfectly and partly because he was in the role of the enthusiast. Not suggesting that he was acting or something, it's just great to hear him really enthusiastic and it played so well against James' hilariously dour almost reluctant foil. The final episode of that was strangely affecting and I had a bit of a lump in my throat.

Ultimately, they're enthusiasts doing what they want to do and my opinion doesn't mean jack. It must be hard to do a weekly show and keep it fresh and keep the energy up, especially with mates when you're not on 'best behaviour'. There's also a tendency (especially in podcasting/YT, but very common in stand-up/improv) when you're not really feeling it to rely on a bit of conflict or irritation to get the juices flowing. I'm certainly not criticising, I just hope they get in a few guests, like they have done previously with Tamoor and Jon Denton, etc.

I've just co-hosted a podcast for the first time (I've never even made a guest appearance before) and I have even more respect now for the guys who put together Cane & Rinse as well as all the other podcasts I listen to. I loved it and I'm hoping it becomes a regular thing, but even so I have seen first hand how strange and time-consuming an undertaking it can be, especially fitting it into your spare time.

It's also given me first hand experience of what it's like to lose and replace a host, seeing as I'm a replacement myself. It's not an easy thing to adapt to.
