I posted a top 50 on here a couple of years ago. I’ve kept it up to date ever since - not that it’s really changed much - and it’s now a top 200 or so, which has inspired me to write a book that’s currently evolving piece by piece from https://retroarcadia.blog, as and when I have time to write new posts.

last night I was discussing the list I made on here with a friend, and it got me thinking about making a top 50 list for all games, not just video games.
TOP 50:
I added in 9 games, however I didn't just chop off the bottom 9, so if I were to redo just the video games list, I think there would be some re-arranging of the bottom 15 or so.
I'll list out the 9 games added, as well as their rank:
1. Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition
2. Star Wars Edge of the Empire
3. Star Wars Destiny
10. UNO
15. Cranium
21. Dominion
29. Box Thing
36. Trivial Pursuit
41. Hide 'n Seek
There was a slightly longer list of non-video games that I reduced down, but the ones I cut included:

Have always had a personal top ten list of my favourite games that changes throughout time but never thought to expand it to top 50. So this list is not in order of least to most favourite, instead will be listed by generation with one or two PC titles sprinkled in during the appropriate time. Also only one entry per series with exceptions for series that have both 2D and 3D entries.

Ha, I keep going back and editing this list because I just remember a game that I absolutely loved and spent an inordinate amount of time and have to add it in and get rid of one that I loved but might be included as honourable mentions instead. But yeah, ranking these? Yeah could not do it. Fair play to anyone who could!

Looking at the top 25 I posted last year, there would definitely be a few new additions. Edith Finch would definitely be in there, along with Hollow Knight and Mario Odyssey. Breath Of The Wild would likely make it in to my top ten if I'd played more so far.
Without overthinking it, here's a snapshot of my brain right now and a top ten right off the top of my head:

5. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, Gris, Minit and Hollow Knight have entered my top 50 this year. Some older games have too, thanks to the NES Classic Mini and the Switch, including the original Zelda and Balloon Fight. And Out Run has jumped a long way up the list too.

Getting close to a scary zero-backlog world, so I figure now is a good time to revisit this. Gonna spend some time today on it in fact. It's been a few years since I last did one, and I dare say there have been some changes.

Started whittling down everything I've played into a list of 50. June 2016 was the last time I did this, and that time frame presents a specific problem.
I use a 'one game per series' rule, to avoid half the list being from a handful of series. I find this focuses me on what I like about a series. In some cases, I may feel that other games in a series do certain things better, but I go with the game most important to me and let it represent its siblings. I've not really had a problem, with Dark Souls, Hitman, or even Mario (which could make up a tenth of the 50 by itself), but...
