Oh I love that it was an actual quote! Just perhaps a poor choice with it being so long and the run went way over it’s estimate. Shame it needs explained as it came across utterly batshit!
That was a huge moment and took me out of all current stress and I felt we were all watching taking it all in, on the big stage, together. Shit man. Fuck! I’m still psyched from it. I loved the commentators. All of it. I was probably making faces while watching that like I was pilled up to my eyeballs sat next to a big speaker at a Grooverider set. I agree I expected far more crowd reaction but I guess shmups are quite niche and they’re invading the norm at GDQ... still, they won’t see anything that impressive again this week. No fucking way. My hope is this is the start and we see more in the future.
So glad I was able to catch this with you all. Now to try and sleep somehow
Hahaha that was not just worth the wait, that's one of the best things I've ever seen in gaming. The best live.
He was so close to losing it at the end there. In fact, it wasn't even at the end, he had so many phases of Larsa to get through, fucking unreal some of that dodging. That one extend at the second to last phase was just just enough to get him home and to his score target. Wow. We're talking pixels away from doom for about ten minutes straight.
As for the speech, it's a bit of a Gus meme because he suddenly came out with it during his appearance on STG Weekly (episode 8) and everyone was going mental for it. I'm so pleased he pulled it out the bag. It's pure cheese and he sounds like madman but what an amazing moment on that massive stage! I can see that being repeated for years, so pleased for him. Twitch chat was going crazy.

Sadly not an option on the app so I'll have to watch it through the browser. Not the worst compromise though, I know. I'm just being an old git.
Are you sure? I can get rid of chat on the app. I just turn my phone landscape and it either vanishes or I press something and it vanishes..

Funnily enough, I only found that out last night. Landscape is the way forward. Cheers for pointing this out because it was a complete accident that I found it.
I also been back on the Futari God Mode thing, although slightly less impressively than Gus. Pretty consistent evening though, with about 10-15 runs of stage 1 over 300m in a couple of hours. That is a big step up in consistency from my 1 in 100,000 previous ratio.
I can't figure out how to get up from 320m to the 350m which I'm aiming for to get the first extend at the first stage (which is a decent level, without being coy). I also can't figure out how I got a 343m PB the other week with seemingly worse strats. It must be a timing thing on the stage boss. Anyway, all other games are dead to me again now until I get this.
I watched that Gus run in full last night on YT, with shmups.com community chatter laid over it. I knew he was going to clear it and I was still on the edge of my seat, thinking there was no way. He was down to his last life on the FB's final health bar!

Took a brief look at the requirements to participate in this list and it looks more complex than hacking CERN. No thanks!
Glad you liked Sqoon so much man. I just completed a hat-trick on the RGC group, with wins on Daze before Christmas, Diddy Kong Racing and Star Soldier. This week's game is Joust. Haven't even fired it up yet!
I can't understand the shmups forum ranking thing at all, so I just copy someone else's numbers and stick my own games in. It's a perfect example of Mark's point that the shmup community is incredibly anal, particular and exclusive.
Let's hope Gus brings some more new blood in because it feels pretty exciting these days.

Just read the instructions and fuckin lol, all of my votes were upside down. Turns out that 25 is the most and 1 is the least, so you're attributing points rather than than ranking, necessarily. Fucking shmups forum, man. Of course there has to be a ridiculous scoring system that takes a while to figure out and you get better and better at understanding how it works every year.
I only joined it the other day from some cross posting in Mark's Cave discord. It's not my preference, I don't know how to use it really to have a conversation, I dunno how to quote or refer back to anything or whatever but it's fine. I had it open during Gus' run the other day and it was fun. I would have jumped in probably in my excitement but it was a bit late for excitable chat.
You've got a good point though, add all the enthusiastic little shmup places and it's great. Focus only on the established stuff and it's a bit mardy. I think Mark was making a similar point in his Gus run reaction vid yesterday or whenever he put it out. I actually find Twitter pretty helpful and positive to be honest, plenty of guys happy to throw some encouraging words around and give a few retweets and have a little chat.
Basically, we just need all the buggers to sign up here, the home of shmups.
I think you phrased that very nicely but I'll offer no further comment. On balance, a very good egg.
I'm having a hell of a night with Futari, completely changed my route for certain sections in a mad quest to squeeze more score from it and, without being too vulgar, I'm using its arsehole as a cunt. I'm still aiming for the 350m on stage one which is the first extend and although I've not hit it yet, the run is coming, I can feel it. If the run properly hits every spot, it's looking pretty serious so I'm utterly in my element tonight. Wife has her mates round so I'm completely alone in my shmup grotto. Diet Coke, Futari and a RAGING stonker.
Fuck all the elitist negativity and bullshit. Who cares. I agree with you on big shot mark, a good egg. Of course he likes to hold the ball - you have to if you’re going to stand up and do something in front of others or be a leader. Nothing wrong with that at all Also the donation, sure the motivation was to get it read out but the charity got $50 out of it, it’s win win! Not saying I think you think differently btw, just agreeing with you on all this!
