Regarding the chat options, I'd suggest we try Hangouts since it's free and the teamspeak mobile app isn't (assuming most of us won't be running a PC in the background.) This is provided we all have or are willing to get a Google account for it. Thoughts?

Is there a Ventrilo app by the way?

Anybody want to jump in? Come to:

Password: 9191 (now removed)

Can't add friends till mid-week but I can play for now, already got company so there's a good 2 spaces free!

Edit. and done, sad to hear nobody wanted to join up but thanks go out to Slugo and "PSPMan" who alongside the brilliant Grim made the moves to help me mount a Najarala that I at first thought an impossible feat.

Before anybody looks at that milestone and thinks, well Mike's pretty good I'd best not play with him I'll let you in on the other side of the story. In almost all of the games (about 15 hunts) I died, in one I took almost all the deaths for the team and still came back to see the team make up for my rash decisions. It's harsh being the one to let the side down but I'm yet to come across someone who will throw the word noob about all over the place because of it. I'd rather try and fail with a full group than miss out on the company of others when playing online.

To further clarify, if you read this. You are the person I want in my game! There is no elitism, there is no preference and all knowledge is there for everyone. Grim knows this game so much more than me but it doesn't make it hard to play with him, if anything he's the driving force for the game and my one regret with the previous game was that he was so far ahead by the point I got involved. I've come so close to pulling my usual stunts and deleting this entire post but I wont, it's a disservice to keep anyone out of getting the most out of such expensive products.

If you really want to hit the ground running (which I'll add is totally optional) I'd suggest ignoring the progression of the game and trying the weapon tutorials in rank 1, following just the insect glaive and sword & shield tutorials I've learnt tangible skills that see me mounting monsters from such odd occasions that it's become my speciality for now. My mounts come from below a monster more than above despite it not being publicised really anywhere and it's all down to the tutorials.

---

In case anybody else is sitcking with the sword and shield for a while I didn't explicitly state what to do but here goes: fight a monster close to an edge of terrain (one you can usually just hop up to), fall back to the low ground and (whilst still equipped with your sword and shield) move forward towards the wall pressing X+A at the same time you reach it. You'll scale the wall with an upswing that you can follow instantly with a downswing making the mount so easy it makes all that climbing look silly. It's also possible to angle this if the monster is below the wall if you attack a little sooner.

I'd suggest trying the demo, it's not the whole package but gives you a good idea of how the hunts operate and the meat of the gameplay.

Thought I'd throw my FC out for some hunts: 1177-8011-4746

Never hunted in Co-Op before so I may make some stupid mistakes haha.

General skill level is probably somewhere between beginner & intermediate. I put 70 or so hours into 3U's single player, but never made it very far into the high rank quests.

Right, I'm back online at full capacity with a new friend code. Lost my friend list in the remote system transfer so I'm going to add everyone from this thread as I just did with the community sticky thread. Can't find friend codes anymore for some folk on the forum but I'm sure I can track them down. Didn't notice the edit on the original post, nice to have an easy to access list.

New friend code is: 4528-0498-9131

Sadly, I wont get away from the office until that time and still have to get my son to bed and make some pancakes for my wife. Ah well, I am probably still to under-equipped to play with the grown-ups anyway.

As DarthCuddles said, the demo is a reasonable starting point. Note that most of the weapons are very different from each other so it's worth trying them all to see if you can find one you're comfortable with. In fact, I think most players have basically one or two weapons they use and largely ignore the rest (that's how it is with me at least.) The demo has online multiplayer which is good because (to me, at least) the game is at its best when played with others. If you like, we could play some matches together on the demo to give you a feel for it. As for the convincing part: it's really great!

Nonsense! You'll be fine, ya big luggamajugs! But a bit of online etiquette off the top of my head:

-Try not to hit other players when they're attacking a monster as they may stumble and mess up their combo. It is, however, inevitable that people will hit each other from time to time so don't sweat it if it happens!

-The items in the blue box in the starting area are shared with the other players so don't take more than your share until everyone's had a chance to take theirs.

-When someone's mounted a monster, don't hit it as this will enrage it further and lessen the chance of a successful topple. The downtime can instead be used to drink potions, sharpen weapons, etc.

Those are just a few pointers for people new to the multiplayer side of things. There's more but I don't remember right now. If someone has more tips please share them!

Apologies to Scapula for the closure of the room! Thank you for joining, however!

My head is filled to the brim with monster knowledge. For instance, did you know that the Nargacuga is named after acclaimed novelist John Steinbeck? If you're thinking "No, I did not know that" or even "That's not true" you would be correct. I have loads more trivia like that if anyone is interested.

Also, sorry for the great capture betrayal. In my best Randy Marsh voice: "We didn't listen!"

We got to the end of the list with capturing some beasty dragon thing. The previous quests aren't too hard but I don't mind retreading that ground again if you haven't already just solo'd them.
