Re: E3 2014

Also, in a canny move, apparently the 3DS version of Smash Bros is not as good as the Wii U version. Which basically makes me have to buy a Wii U now.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Picked up Kirby Triple Deluxe. It's pretty great. Not Kirby Super Star great, but a fun, easy little platformer to cheer you up when you're down.

Re: E3 2014

Also re: female assassins - it sounds harsh, but cutting female assassins probably doesn't do a whole lot to the sales of AC3. This is why I get so jaded with hashtag activism - I mean, I'm sympathetic to it (god knows I want to see more diversity in protagonist characters and god knows having every...

Re: E3 2014 - All of it

Battlefield Hardline and that trailer for Rainbow Six go in my drawer of "Things that make me feel uncomfortable for being in videogames". Both seem in incredibly poor taste, especially Hardline - although I know that making a videogame about killing policeman isn't necessarily worse than ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Cheers guys. I finished Bastion, really wanted to talk to someone about it, and then was like "wait, wasn't there a Bastion C&R?"

In future - only playing games covered by C&R.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Hmm, trying to download the Bastion C&R episode off the iTunes store but the episode archives only go back as far as Luigi's Mansion (which is episode 25). Anyone know how if it's still available via iTunes? Having just finished it, I can certainly see where the praise came from. It's beautiful,...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been having an absolute blast with Skyrim so far - when it hooked me, it really hooked me - but I've played 40 hours of it over a relatively short space of time, so to avoid burnout I'm going to do my very best to play Bastion all the way through. Speaking of hooks, that one never got me - ever...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

SKYRIM: What is best in life?
CASS: To go back and crush bosses that had previously kicked your arse, to drive their Draugr minions before you, and to loot their bodies, ash piles and chests for epic gear.
SKYRIM: That is good! That is good.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

So I'm running into something in Skyrim that's putting me off. two or three times now I'll find a hideaway or an off-the-beaten-path temple, I'll raid it, all the enemies will be my level or much lower (mostly Draugr or Forsworn at this point). I'll make my way through there easily, pick up a quest,...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've tried your method Dom but I think that was what soured me on Oblivion - I'm not great with open-world stuff and I like structure and narrative, so just pure exploring doesn't always hit with me.

Cheers Scrustle, I'll hit up the Companions in Whiterun :)

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Bought Skyrim on a whim after having never gelled with Oblivion or Morrowind and thoroughly enjoyed my first hour - and now have run out of things to do in Whiterun and am not really sure where I'm supposed to be going or what I'm supposed to be doing. I know that's kind of the point, but these game...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I don't dislike 10, but it was where they started down the linearity road that lead to 13. I just wish more of the FF's were like 12. I'm longing for the HD Remaster of 12. People criticise the FF formula for getting stale, but 12 tried so many new things and was just generally an exciting and beau...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Dabbling in Guild Wars 2 and Dota 2, both of which I'm terrible at and yet still managing to have a good time, so huzzah for that. Started Pokemon White 2 but finding it hard to play a new pokemon game without the excitement of new Pokemon, plus I think I've been spoiled rather massively by the grap...

Re: Bioshock Infinite - Only after Completion

I guess for me it's hard not to read into the fact that Burial At Sea Ep 2 is coming out at around the same time Irrational are shutting down, after Infinite (seven years of work, mind) failed to sell enough to make the studio worth keeping. It's a grim playthrough. Elizabeth's adventure in this epi...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I have a big ol' moan about Burial At Sea in the Bioshock thread, but todinho made me remember how completely stupid the checkpointing is in this DLC. For how frail/easily killed you are, to not be able to manually save after achieving something is very, very frustrating. Also no, as far as I could ...

Re: Bioshock Infinite - Only after Completion

So. Just finished Burial At Sea Episode 2. Liked: Again, gorgeous game and captures the claustrophobic environment of Rapture much, much better than the first (which leaned much too heavily on props from Columbia inserted, inexplicably, into the underwater city. Those elements are still here, but do...

Re: This week's podcast: Super Mario Sunshine

YES! I was hoping you guys would cover this. I grew up a Sony kid for the most part and, besides Super Mario Land on the original black and white Gameboy, Super Mario Sunshine was my introduction to the series... which is probably for the best, actually. Having subsequently played Mario 64 and Galax...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I think of this issue (as with most things) in terms of Bioshock Infinite. On a first, virgin play, Infinite is amazing. There's a review. But it doesn't bear up to scrutiny (in my opinion). Voila criticism. There's room for both reactions. If I'd read the criticism before I'd played it the first ti...
